I've got a Fortron 400W PSU running this system:
CPU C2D E2160 overclocked at 2.88Ghz 1.375v
MB Gigabyte P31 DS3L
VGA MSI GF460GTX factory overclocked and overvoltage 725Mhz 1.1vdc
RAM 2x1GB DDR2-800
HDD 2xWD 500GB 7200RPM
+ 3 case fans
System is 4 years old except the VGA which I bought last year. It's been running w/o any problems untill few days ago. It turned off and it wouldn't start. All I had to do is wait few mins then I could turn it back on, then it worked for few hours. First thing I noticed, you could hear some kind of coil noise from the PSU. It tried to start, then you heared a squeaking noise and it turned off. Waiting few mins untill it cooled down seemed to work. Second thing I noticed was all the cables, especially the ones plugged to the graphic card were hot, and the VRM area of the VGA was burn-injury case.
The PSU has never been cleaned. Took it apart, from what I saw there, don't think there was any kind of airflow going on D:. PSU was packed-solid with dust.
Tightened the contacts, cleaned the PSU, toned-down the OC and it worked for few days w/o any probs. 1 hour ago it shut down itself again.
Guess I'm in the market for a new PSU, right? :\ Or if anyone knows if this is home-fixable would be better.
