Maybe ask your cable company to change it. If it is static I don't think there is anything you can personally do. Other than that, you could go to the forums through a proxy server.

Why did you get banned from the forums? Maybe there is a reason they dont want you back...

i posted a link to a vid that had a porn popup. I didn't know about the porn popups because i, like 99 percent of everybody else on the net, have a decent pop up stopper. BTW, the vid was not porn or x rated

i can do it....
for a price. J/K!!!
Is your computer hooked directly to your modem? If so, you can change the MAC address of your network card in windows, and you'll get another IP, most likely.
If you are hooked to a router, you can change it there too, with the chance of the same result.
If it is truly a static IP, then you are both cursed and lucky

If you are a cable user with a DOCSIS modem, you can't change the MAC address that counts, that's the internal MAC address of the modem. I suggest you forget about the places you're banned from and modify your behavior in the future to avoid the same fate...

Not true, if he has a dynamic IP
I have an SB4100, and I can get a new IP anytime I want, but of course my goal is to keep the same one

I said he can't change the MAC address of the modem.

FWIW, I can't get a new address that easily with Comcast, I've power cycled my modem several times, they even did the 3mbit speed upgrade in our area, and my IP address is still the same. I don't have a static IP, and it's changed in the past, I just don't seem to have much control over when it changes.

I forget which DSLAM equipment my ISP upgraded to, but it is new stuff, and whenever I change the NIC connected to the modem, I get a new address. If the MAC addy is the same, I get the same address.
My modem is hooked to a hub.
I have a FreeBSD router, hooked to the hub from the wan side NIC.
My computer has a second NIC hooked to that hub, disabled normally.
When I disable it, I also change the MAC addy like so, xx xx xx xx BA to xx xx xx xx BB.
When I want to connect directly to the internet, I ifconfig down the wan port on my router, change the MAC addy on my second NIC, and enable it.
I get the same IP that way. If I just connect my computer without doing that, I get a different IP, and the ISP's dhcp server gives away my old IP while I am directly connected.

The only way I can get a different IP with the same MAC addy is to remain offline totally for an hour or so, and the dhcp server gives my old addy away.

Edit: I want the direct connect for some buggy protocols that do not NAT worth beans, unless you open up all the high ports.

thats the way to do it. since the nature of dhcp is that it attempts to keep your current ip if it available.
