(same thing I posted in your OT thread and other Dyson threads..)

FYI these things have EXTREMELY aggressive beater bars. The reason they 'suck up' so much more 'dirt' is that the 'dirt' is actually carpet fibers being ripped up which makes you think it actually has better suction.

If you have cheap carpet it will take about 4-5 years of vacuuming before you end up with bare spots.

No joke.. Next time you empty your canister take a close look at the contents. I had one of the earlier yellow models, DC07 I think, and it ended up destroying my apartment carpet after a few years. Granted I claimed it as 'normal wear and tear' but gave the thing away when I bought a home. I replaced it with the Eureka Boss (or whatever it's called, the consumer reports recommended one) and LOVE it. It filters much much better and hepa filter bags are dirt cheap on amazon.

A vacuum is nothing more than an air pump with a giant filter (whether it's a bag or a cartridge or whatever). Look at the dyson "filters".. most of the dust is just being pushed through the foam and dumped back into your house.

A hepa bag will filter much better and allow more airflow.. Just sayin..

... I will add that the build quality of the dyson is imo superior to my eureka. The eureka has flimsy handle latches, a stupid cord holder, and is loud. Everything else is awesome.

You get what you pay for. Anything sub $100 is a hunk of junk. They do not last long and they do not clean worth the crap.

FYI these things have EXTREMELY aggressive beater bars. The reason they 'suck up' so much more 'dirt' is that the 'dirt' is actually carpet fibers being ripped up which makes you think it actually has better suction. Thats the whole point in the beater bar is to beat the dirt out so the vacuum can suck it out during beating. The reason why those cheap vaccums suck, they beat the carpet like a little girl trying to swat a fly. All good vaccums suck/brush up the loose fibers.

If you have cheap carpet it will take about 4-5 years of vacuuming before you end up with bare spots.
No joke.. Next time you empty your canister take a close look at the contents. Shouldn't buy cheap carpet. If it was in an aparrtment, wouldn't last long no matter what vaccum you own. 5 years in an apartment is excellent life for carpet

A vacuum is nothing more than an air pump with a giant filter and without a good beater bar, you have nothing

Believe it or not, but a good vaccuum is supposed to get 95% of the dirt out of your carpet and underneath. pull up your carpet and see how much dirt your cheap vacuums leave behind. A good vaccuum will clean your carpets better than anything, while machines are only responsible for cleaning the actual fibers/ outer surface. Without a good beater bar, you might as well use your shop vac and just clean the very top surface

I just got the Blueprint Limited Edition DC24 via woot.com 1 day special a little over a week ago for $279, you get a free flat head attachment worth 60 incl plus the limited edition has a way nicer colour scheme

I used to think a $60 vacuum was all that was needed. My Hoover needed replacing and all I can say is this thing has removed dirt like nothing I have seen from area rugs we have as well as the carpeted area in our semi. Our place is generally seen as clean and we always get somments on it but this DC24 pulled out alot of sediment and really is so easy to manouever around it makes vacuuming a breeze.

For what I paid it was well worth it , the only other unit at a similar cost to what I paid is the Hoover Platinum Cyclonic @ $299 w a 6 yr warranty, it is very good as well but it is is alot bigger but has a messy bagless disposal system and it is alot heavier than the 12 lbs of the DC24

The DC24 at $261 is well worth every penny you pay, once you get the hang of it and how to use it right it is really great.

If I was paying more I would get the DC25 as it has a much larger cannister reducing time to empty it, overall the unit is very very good.

Love my DC-17

Came from a Kirby and it blows it away. The bagless design is the only way to go. the bags just clog up.

The only problem I've had is the beater bar belt will break or strip easily if you accidentally suck up something like a shoe lace or some fabric. Dyson wants a lot for a replacement but ebay doesn't. I always keep an extra around.

I don't see carpet fibers in my canister. I do see all the cat hair though which makes me happy.

i think this probaly is not too bad for $250, a lotof higher end hoovers and such cost in that range too..

i mean i personally have a $50 cheap vacuum that does the job. sure it could be better but i live in an apartment and dont really care THAT much.

but if i had my own place, the dyson doesnt seem that bad at all.

Don't mind him, he's just one of those people.

Yeah, we've had our Animal for over 6 years now and it's still rockin'. We also have cheap carpet in our house and no bare spots, but we have 2 boys and a dog so our house is getting beat on daily.

Bought this vacuum cleaner lasy year, granted, it's not a dyson and can prob never do what a dyson does, but it does a fantastic job of cleaning rugs and wood floors.

Only Caveat is you have buy replacement bags, pack of 9 cost me $6 shipped

I got a dirt devil featherlite on sale at sears for about 30 bucks. Bought a few extra belts and a crap load of bags.

Anyway, every time I change the bag it is filled with something... I suspect it is dust and dirt...but what do I know?

Thing is it works well and has been for about 3 years so far. I guess my hunk of junk is doing just fine job of packing in the dirt into the bag!

Anyone who hasnt owned a dyson wont understand. I got tired of replacing sub $100 vacuum's every 1-2 years. The high price of a good vacuum was inconceivable to me until I owned one, and now a cheap vacuum is inconceivable.

Where I work we have a couple of Dyson's and the cleaning guy is always complaining about how weak the beater bar is. His recommendation is an Oreck, says they last much longer. If you think the build quality of the Dyson is good you should check out an Electrolux or Kirby, now those are made like a tank. I used to have my Grandmother's Electrolux and then gave it to my daughter when she moved out. It was from at least 1959 as my Grandfather died in 1960 and he gave it to her for Valentines day, how romantic. it would still be working but it was in a basement when it flooded and they threw it out without checking to see if it still worked. Was used for 4 generations, try that with the cheesy plastic Dyson!

Eh, love my DC25 blueprint that was bought due to an added posted in the hot deals thread. Very well engineered, and cleans carpets much better than the old one. Also very easy to clean the brush as a simple quarter turn of a screw (using a coin, so essentially toolless) and I can pull out the bar with ease and cut away the wife's hair that wraps around it so well.

Dyson's, IMO, are very well built machines. Not a single complaint from me.

Dysons better be good reliable vacuums considering the price they command or else everyone will feel so scammed. This is a great deal on the DC24 from their original MSRP price.
