Apparently Consumer Reports says: Hoover WindTunnel Self Propelled Ultra U6439-900 is the best vacuum but Amazon.com customer reviews only has a 2 star rating, from the reviews it sems that this vacuum seems to break a lot.

Can you guys suggest me some vacuums? Are dyson's good? why the fvck do they cost soo much money?

thanks for your help.

Edit: I bought a dyson, there was a blue kind at costco which is their top of the line for $429

it was very easy to setup and works good. When the maid cleans the house we'll be able to tell how good it works.

Edit 2: holy moley, this picked up soo much dirt that i didnt even know was there! the maid comes and cleans every other tuesday and the house is usually very clean but when she used the new dyson she filled up the cansiter practically and the carpet looks like its new!

I like my Hoover WindTunnel V2.
Bagless, 2 motors (1 for brush, 1 for suction), no belts.
Think I got it for about $250 @ Sears a couple years ago.

Looks like this might be the current generation of it:
Sears Link.

I've had 2000 buck canister vacs before.

That was until I got the dyson vac.

This thing is simply amazing. A pleasure to use and cleans faster and better than my kirby.

for 500 bucks it simply cannot be beat.

We have a Dyson as well and the suction is incredible. So far we are extremely happy with it. When I was a kid my family had a Rainbow. I guess they didn't cost the equivalent of 2k today since there is no way my parents had that kind of money back then. They were easy to do self repair on and the dirt was collected by a tray of water attached to the bottom of the unit.

This is the model Dyson we have.

Depends on the type of vacuum that you want.

A no frill 7 amp upright Eureka is the best bang for the buck. (don't get one with hose or any another attachments)

Eureka did make some of the best cast aluminium canister vac at about $1000-2000 new. You might be able to find a used/rebuilt Eureka for around $500.

What about in the "poor college student and I don't want to spend $200 on a vacuum" category?

From what I hear, the beater bar on the dyson isn't as stiff as some of the other makes. It has gotten excellent reviews for vacuuming on bare floor surfaces. I guess being of european design, they don't carpet as much as us americans, therefore it works better for them. Although the suction is pretty strong on this vacuum, so I'm not sure if that'd make up for the limp beater bar.

The bar that spins and has bristols on it. The bristols are softer on it than others.

my house has never been cleaner than after using the dyson. I'm freakin serious - it makes the carpet look brand new.

Hoover with a bag, bagless do not do as good of job cleaning even though it's easy to empty them.
