Man attacked by his vacuum

By Bob Dow

HOUSEPROUD Norman Grant yesterday told a court how he was attacked by his new Dyson vacuum cleaner. The former offshore oilman was floored as he tried to clean cobwebs. A flying hose extension threw him downstairs and knocked him unconscious as he used it for the first time. The firm admitted liability for the bizarre accident. A hearing began at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday to set the compensation. Mr Grant, of Mannofield, Aberdeen, wants £50,000 in damages. He said disaster struck the day after buying the blue and purple Dyson DC07. He told the court that he had read the instructions and turned it on, then fitted the brush extension. He added: 'It just broke apart and came back at me. Suddenly this flash came at me and something struck me on the arm. The next minute, I found myself at the bottom of the stairs. I came to, stood up and wondered what had happened. Mr Grant said he fell down 14or15steps and suffered head injuries and a broken wrist. He said: I put it together again. I could not see anything I had done wrong with it. Dyson said it was the highest technology in the world. His partner Jessie Jack said she was in bed on the Sunday morning when she was disturbed by a squawk. She said: I got out of bed ready to have a go at Norman for making a racket. But he was at the bottom of the stairs. It had whacked him on the head. Mr Grant said he had been forced to turn down a driving job due to the pain. His golf, gardening and household chores had also been affected. The case was continued to a later date for further evidence.

I finally pulled the trigger and bought a dyson last week.
I can't believe how well it cleans- everything everyone says is true.

I just got my refurb Dyson this weekend from Amazon for $250.

This thing is unbelievable. I had half a cannister filled with dirt from just vacuuming a small rug. My POS Hoover upright bagless vacuums absolutely nothing. The cannister never fills with anything.

My wife is absolutely thrilled with it.

The only problem that I have with it though is that you can't vacuum mats with it since they stick to the nosel.

Great recommendation and purchase.

Thank you for reminding me of the Linens-n-Things 20% coupons. I have like a dozen of those things.

usually these coupons exclude dyson as well as some various other things

but maybe you can get lucky and get a cashier that doesn't check

I have a Kirby Gen3 Upright and it is simply amazing. I love the transmission and the suction is unbelievable. So many attachments.

Update: One other thing about the Dyson. I run air filters both in my basement and upstairs; since buying the Dyson I've noticed the cleanable filters inside aren't as dirty, by a noticeable degree. I think the filter in the vacuum does a better job than the Eureka it replaced, as it doesn't kick out as much dust or carpet fibers. Also, used the cleaning agents the vacuum caem with for the first time awhile ago and they did a great job, unlike the various powders and sprays I've tried before.

Hats off to Mr. Dyson!

Don't those say that they exclude Dyson? Or do only the ones from Bed Bath and Beyond say that?

nice gadget. doubtful that its works well enough to really justify its price. doubt it cleans over 3 times as good as a 150dollar model. its not like normal vacumn bags take years to fill chock full of dirt or anything.

We have a second-hand Dyson (bought from eBay), and that thing is incredible- I hoovered the house with the old cleaner, and then went over it again with the Dyson - a third full. Money well spent.

You should try one, you will change your opinion.

Not only is the dc7 a powerful vacuum cleaner, I am amazed at the way it is designed. Everything just works the way it should.

eh imho the build quality seemed a bit.. shoddy... like the parts don't all fit together perfectly; especially where the filter is.

That being said; the canister FILLS up in one, maybe two vacuum sessions. I've never seen a bag-type vacuum fill up that fast which means the dyson must be picking up junk that the others aren't.

I'm not a fan of how the hose works; nor how it makes a horrific noise when you do something it doesn't like (go from vinyl kitchen floor to carpet; or switch the lever to/from vinyl to carpet...

other than those quirks I love mine.

I thought that too at first, until I found that you can remove almost all the parts from a Dyson to clean them- that's why they don't fit together all that well. Still, saying that, mine works perfectly- the rubber seals do a pretty good job.
