I have a friend that works at a Hoover store. When they close up for the night and lock the doors, they vacuum up the place with a Dyson. He says they don't want to dirty up the new models, but I think they just use the best vac in the place.

Macy's had the slim Dyson for $250 recently. Seemed like a reasonable price for a dyson, though I have no idea how it compares. I'm glad to be living in a place with hardwood floors so a cheap dirt devil will do the trick.

What the hell will a $300 Dyson do that an $80 Hoover wont?

Fixed.

Easy. It sucks more dirt and cleans better

Yes it does.

You are wrong if you disagree with me.

End of discussion.

From what i understand, it'll clog less often.

I have a Hoover wind Tunnel that I have to unclog about every other time I use it and have been thinking of getting a Dyson for that reason.

next time cut the bs and buy a bagged vac

Dyson's are good, but I couldn't justify that kind of cash on a vacuum. So I picked up a Kenmore Progressive upright on sale for $229 and it's awesome. Very highly rated by CR as well. I got the bagged version because I prefer them over the bagless, and the reviews said they work better anyway.

Is this the top rated one from Consumer Reports? A lot of the subscriber reviews on CR and customers on the Sears website give it a thumbs down because of some flimsy construction. I guess there is a plastic component that is prone to breaking. Did you find that to be true with yours?

Yea it's the one from CR. This one. We haven't had any issues with it in the time we've had it (a little over a year).

I actually prefer a bagged vacuum. Hoover Tempo is the best bang for the buck. 12 Amps, no frills, about $70- $80.

Does ATOT really need a new vacuum thread every 4-6 weeks? 11/6 9/24 8/13 7/13

My understanding is that Dyson's older patents have expired, and the other brands' models are based on those. The Hoover Whisper ($100) is highly recommended.

No, but Spidey needs to step up here....... (conversation in one of those past threads about the Eureka 4870 Boss)

Fine, I'll pick up that vac for upstairs. Will report later.

I have two flights of stairs and plenty of pets and really the dyson is such a pure pleasure to use. I never thought I'd be thrilled by a vacuum cleaner as it was always work, the Dyson isn't work - it's BING, bang, boom, done.

Spidey, I'm not being an ass here. Your HD type threads are very informative, but you are wrong here pilgrim.
Oh, Bing Crosby is great!

I would'nt suggest the Eureka on stairs, I'll admit that.

the Wind Tunnel IS a bagged vacuum. with filters that have to be clean periodically or it wont suck, even with an empty bag.

actually there are bagless windtunnel vacs.

as for filters. the filters i've seen are for an extra scrub of air after it goes through the bag. not restrictive at all.

not all models of a brand rate the same on consumer reports. that being said, dyson is definitely not a star performer.

except when clogged with dust. I bought mine used and needed a little work and the filters hadn't been cleaned in a while.

I bought my wife a $60 dirt devil last year for her apartment. (our house has no carpet)

Bagless vacuums all work on the same principles....rather than using suction and pressure with a bag, they do the same thing with a canister & filter. If it's comfortable to use, that's great...but knowing how well electronics and motors are made these days (longevity), I would opt for a cheaper model and buy a new one in 5 years when it starts to die. The Dyson probably won't last any longer than a cheaper model.
