What the hell will a $300 Dyson do that an $80 Hoover wont?
Fixed.
Easy. It sucks more dirt and cleans better
Yes it does.
You are wrong if you disagree with me.
End of discussion.
From what i understand, it'll clog less often.
I have a Hoover wind Tunnel that I have to unclog about every other time I use it and have been thinking of getting a Dyson for that reason.

Dyson's are good, but I couldn't justify that kind of cash on a vacuum. So I picked up a Kenmore Progressive upright on sale for $229 and it's awesome. Very highly rated by CR as well. I got the bagged version because I prefer them over the bagless, and the reviews said they work better anyway.
Is this the top rated one from Consumer Reports? A lot of the subscriber reviews on CR and customers on the Sears website give it a thumbs down because of some flimsy construction. I guess there is a plastic component that is prone to breaking. Did you find that to be true with yours?
My understanding is that Dyson's older patents have expired, and the other brands' models are based on those. The Hoover Whisper ($100) is highly recommended.Originally posted by: rh71
saw a whole slew of models from other brands that have the same vortex type of technology. apparently people here are saying it's the same thing... does dyson have a patent pending? if not, i don't see a reason why I shouldn't spend less and get the same thing.

Fine, I'll pick up that vac for upstairs. Will report later.
I have two flights of stairs and plenty of pets and really the dyson is such a pure pleasure to use. I never thought I'd be thrilled by a vacuum cleaner as it was always work, the Dyson isn't work - it's BING, bang, boom, done.
Spidey, I'm not being an ass here. Your HD type threads are very informative, but you are wrong here pilgrim.
Oh, Bing Crosby is great!
I would'nt suggest the Eureka on stairs, I'll admit that.

the Wind Tunnel IS a bagged vacuum. with filters that have to be clean periodically or it wont suck, even with an empty bag.

actually there are bagless windtunnel vacs.
as for filters. the filters i've seen are for an extra scrub of air after it goes through the bag. not restrictive at all.
not all models of a brand rate the same on consumer reports. that being said, dyson is definitely not a star performer.
