I got a EVGA e-GeForce 8800GS, (hey, stop laughing!) and the fan on it finally died out.
I was wondering, has anyone ever replaced the fan on these things?
This is the card

That does look nice, but not sure I want to spend that much for a new cooler, since for just a few $$$ more, you can get a new card.

I wonder if EVGA lifetime warranty covers this?

Almost any used video card for $20 will outperform it. Don't bother fixing it, it's not worth the price of buying even a cheap 80mm fan to glue to the outer casing.

What CPU do you have? A modern i3 or i5 has better graphics built right in!

(I'm not trying to be mean, I'm usually the one behind the curve too and I know what it's like to be on a super-tight budget so it's from that perspective that I recommend you don't waste a single dime keeping this ancient klunker going. Invest your spare change wisely and just get a new video card which will not only be a bit faster but also add many new features.)

That said, if you HAVE a spare 80mm case fan just lying around, try ripping out the bad fan then gluing that 80mm onto the hole (blowing IN.) It might hold you until you can replace the whole card.

Could of swore I replied to this, but, seems it didn't go through.
Anyway, ended up using zip ties to stick a old 60mm fan from a CPU cooler, and that seems to work fine. Doesn't look very nice though.

Yeah, I know it is a pretty old card, matches the old system it is in (nf7 mobo, Athlon-m CPU) that just serves some files. It could have been headless, but, sometimes, I need a display to test the RAM or whatever else boot error that pops up occasionally on upgrades.

Serves your purpose, no fan to break, has a $20 rebate bringing it down to $10 after rebate. That seems to make the most sense for what you're doing.

Heh, that is pretty darn cheap--and faster.

That HD5450 is not faster at anything, by a wide margin. But serves its intended purpose better than a 8800GS in an admin rig (no gaming). Silent and sips power.
