It's at times like these I'm happy to have 1GB of webspace with unlimited transfer for absolutely nothing at all.

Some people don't have that kind of money.

If the uptime is bad, what's the point of having a web hosting service?
If the support isn't good, you will ultimately regret even bothering with a company.

If you have a good experience, you won't mind paying a few extra dollars

I've decided e-rice is out of the question, but I need to decide between cernax and hostpc. Ultimately, it comes to: how much bandwidth do I need for a small online computer store? If 1500 MB is enough, I will probably go with cernax.

By the way, Agaboogaboo, does cernax offer a secure page (SSL) with that hosting?

For a small website, 1.5GB of bandwidth is plenty, most are able to easily stay within that for personal or small business websites.

As for SSL, you have to purchase your own static IP address for that along with the SSL certificate. If you want more information on this, feel free to drop me a message.

Yes, cPanel is a very useful tool, makes life much easier to be able to have a web interface for day to day activities.

We don't sell those, however you can find them for as low as $10-$15. Most hosts won't provide you with an SSL certificate by default, it's usually something seperate you have to buy.

I've been very happy with both Cernax and Dixiesys, but it looks like Dixiesys might be alittle out of your price range.

Was wondering this myself (but was distracted by a PM that absolutely required my attention).

I want the SSL for the web submit forms. I was told by other AT members people want a secure server when they give out credit card numbers. Or should I just offer PayPal only?

As for E-Rice, it says they include SSL along with the packages, is that true?

Please take this in the spirit intended. I'm not trying to "sell" anyone!

PLEASE - don't trust your site to the lowest bidder. Doing so is a recipe for disaster. Absolutely nothing against the $10/yr hosts out there, but a business site on an undercutting budget host is asking for trouble.

Go with a reliable host - one you can trust, has a solid reputation and can help you with hands on support. Dixiesys is a regular member here, the few extra $ is well worth the investment - unless of course you're into "headaches" in a morbid little way

I'm just trying to prevent a "My host went south with my money and my online store and I'm losing $XXXXX a day" post.

Good luck with whoever you choose.

Thanks for the sound advice Joe. If anyone knows, you would

Here's proof you get what you pay for and web hosts can turn to crap:
