Hi this is my first overclock and so far it's going great.
This cpu is all value and then some !!!

Here are my settings.

e2160 abit ip35-e partiot extreme performance ram 4-4-4-12 @ 2.2v
9x380
vcore 1.47
cpu vtt 1.19
northbridge 1.30

temps under load are fine < 50.

On the intel site it says that the voltage settings for vcore should be 1.162 - 1.312 .
My cpu runs at 3.0ghz stable without increasing vcore like i have for the 3.4 overclock.

Will vcore this high cause problems?
Whats safe?

Thanks alot .

There are two opposing points-of-view for this question. Some feel that only the engineers at Intel really have a clue as to what is a safe voltage for this cpu. Others take the attitude that the worst that can happen is that you destroy a $60 cpu.

I personally would settle for 3.0 ghz on stock voltage. I don't like to go over 1.40 volts maximum. You will have to decide what is right for you.

From your experience has any cpu ever died or go unstable later on down the road as a result of high vcore?
Thanks.

I've never seen a processor die due to high voltage (with the exception of the extreme "suicide" runs), but I have seen high overclock's stability slowly degrade over time.

Think about it kind of like a car - you can push it as hard as you'd like, and it will usually take it... at first. Over time things will start to get clunky, and you'll have to make repairs. Unfortunately, there really aren't any repairs to be made on a processor.

If your goal is to run this processor for a short period of time (a year or less), push it as high as you feel comfortable. If you're going to keep it around for a bit (1-2 years), I would settle for the 3.0GHz on stock voltage. If this is going to have to last you years to come (extremely tight budget; 3-5+ years), I wouldn't overclock at all.

I'll take your advice and stick to 3ghz at stock voltage .
Thats still a great overclock with this chip.
Good value for money i'm delighted with it it.

Thanks ,
and happy overclocking

About as good as my E4300 @ 3.46GHz with 1.465Vcore. I use C1E and EIST. Same MB. Don't believe you'll have any issue with CPU longevity is you use the power-savings feature (at least 5 years).

I think all depends on the cooling you use, if you got good air cooler // water cooler yeah 3.4 is probably ok at that high of voltage, although most people stay at 1.4v.

Is this the lowest vcore it will run at 3.4ghz? Have you experimented with it and stressed it for stability at lower volts? All you're saying is this your first OC with no other info on what you did to arrive at 1.47v.

Well the e2160 and the e4300 are the same chips with just different cache .
I'm sure i can overclock this chip alot more with more vcore. But then i'd have to go away and buy another cooler and thats defeating the reason why i bought the chip in the first place.

I dropped down to 1.4vcore just to see and it's stable at 3.4ghz.
I'm using the intel stock cooler and heatsink temps are ok.

I'm only planing on keeping this cpu for about a year atleast, then i'm going to go for the 45nm chips .Just wondering but have you any proof on your 5 year claim ?
Thats the only thing i'm not getting solid information about.

I arrived at 1.47v because it would't boot into windows at 1.35 so i gave it another volt and it was fine.
The lowest voltage i can get this stable is 1.41 at 3.4ghz.

Any more information from your experiences would be great .
Thanks.
