E2xxx and E4xxx overclock thread

I thought that while its cool to see what people have managed to do with a q6600 I think the best overclockers are these cheap cpus.

We can all trust each other so I don't think we need screens of orthos/prime blend and cpu-z. I think a good orthos time is 3 hours because most errors will occur in that time and 8 hours is pretty time consuming.

It probably should be formatted like swtethan's quad thread. Please post cpu, v core, multi and bus speed(not quad pumped), mobo, ram amount and speed(orig and oc) and cooling.

My rig:

CPU:e4500(m0)
FSB and Multi: 11x290
Vcore:1.376
Mobo: EVGA 680i T1
RAM: 2gbs of ddr2 800 @420mhz(840mhz effective) async
Cooling: Tuniq Tower 120

Thanks.

E4300 at 9x multi...Orthos/S&M/Memtest86 stable @ 3.46GHz with 1.465Vcore, 2.0Vdimm/5-4-4-8-2T/480MHz RAM speed. Also stable at 3.58GHz with 1.505Vcore, 2.05Vdimm/5-4-4-10-2T/498MHz RAM speed (<66F room only). RAM is on 1:1.25 divider with 1066 strap. Note that I only run Orthos up to about 2 hours max. There's no need to burn-up my CPU.

Thanks Serpent, how stable is your faster speed? If it can run for >3 hours with temps your okay at I'll put it in.

Subjected to same tests as 3.46GHz, but I need to run in 66F room...too much heat will cause the CPU to crash.

I'll stick to the lower one in the column because it seems to be stable in most conditions.

My brothers setup I built for him for his birthday is running at 2.93ghz atm because I had a spare Foxconn 680i mobo that refuses to go above 333fsb on his e4400 it's at stock voltage.

Zach...good thread to start.

Any chance you can have people with the E4300 & E4400 include the stepping as well as the manuf week of their CPU? I ask because it's generally observed that the earlier production E4300s in particular (i.e. pre week 30) are the best OCers.

e4300 1.8ghz @ 3.06ghz (340x9) - 1.375vcore in BIOS, 1.266vcore actual reading under load.
Running with stock cooler, ~45c idle - ~60c under 100% load

XMS2 PC5400 (DDR675) @ DDR816 - 4-4-4-12 - 2.1vdimm

Gigabyte P35-DS3L

I'll edit in my week and stepping and such when I get home. I remember the week was Q703, which I found sort of odd (most are Lxxx I think).

Edit: Q703 - A204 - Pack Date 04-19-07

Thank you for your responses.
@bfdd could you please supply memory and voltage from cpu-z
@kentb could you please supply voltage from cpu-z
@brencat thanks for the suggestion I added it to the OP

Thanks again to all who have submited their results.

I'm using the stock voltage, 1.325 in bios..
but it says 1.280 v in cpu-z because of the vdrop issue.
mine's an L2, was hoping to get M0 because i just got it last week... but oh well.. i'm still happy with it

i just hate the intel stock cooler.. its so noisy.

Gigabyte P35-DS3L

I'll edit in my week and stepping and such when I get home. I remember the week was Q703, which I found sort of odd (most are Lxxx I think).

Edit: Q703 - A204 - Pack Date 04-19-07

Informative post. I saw this Gigabyte at the local Frys. The power section looks weaker than the Abit IP35-E. Now your post shows Vdrop+Vdroop of 0.1 under load using E4300.

I get -0.04V under Orthos Large, and -0.05V under S&M heat mode (IP35-E/E4300).

Does this MB double post during cold boot? How's the NB temperature?

I might have misreported the bios vcore, I might be thinking 1.3375 instead of 1.375. I'll doublecheck when I get home this evening. NB gets a bit toasty, but it's not painful to touch. I'll check on the mobo's double-posting this evening as well.

Thanks...not sure why the Gigabyte boards run hotter at NB. I see the same with their P965 boards. What is your northbridge voltage? I'm running mine at 1.25 (good up to about 450MHz FSB). Board requires 1.30 to hit 488MHz FSB.

Well I run a basic E4400/P5B Deluxe/2GB DDR2-667 setup...

3.15GHz (10x315) is stable at default voltages/stock HSF.

3.3GHz is stable @ 1.4V but the stock HSF is clearly out of it's league cooling wise...

With better cooling 3.4 - 3.5GHz should definitely be doable...

Btw, I've tried higher FSB speeds with lower multis, next to NO performance gain whatsoever... like 0.5% or something...

Thank you so much for your responses and apologize for the delay. I don't have access to a computer at school for this and I had driver's ed so I just finished my homework.

@harpoon- How long is it safe for you to run at 3.3ghz with out going over 75C load?

I ran Orthos for about an hour and it got above 75C definitely, IIRC it was at least 77C... far too high for comfort. I guess 1 hour of Orthos isn't exactly 24/7 solid stable but it was about as long as I wanted to let it go, the temps were just too high, I'm surprised it was even stable at that temp!

I see several guys at XS removed the IHS on their E4xxx chips to get better contact with the HSF and hence lower temps -- comes off real easy apparently with a razor blade. In the old days, I think they were soldered on much like the Conroes, but for recent production Intel is just using some crap thermal paste underneath.

Anyone here tried that?

Yup...with E4300. Temp is 7 to 9c lower. I still use the heat spreader but only as a spacer for my BT CPU cooler. Lapped top and bottom of heat spreader. All E2xx0 and E4xx0 use paste. Only E6xx0 are soldered to the chip.
