I thought they were launching mid month? Sandy Bridge with ECC memory FTW!

Yes the Intel® Xeon® E3-1200’s were launched yesterday in a hard launch. We had set the launch date so that it wouldn’t affect re-launch of the 6 series boards with the “B3” stepping. Here is the information on the Intel Xeon E3-1200’s http://ark.intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?series=53495. I think that it is important to note that the Xeon E3’s will all have HD 3000 graphics except the Xeon E3-1220L and 1260L.

Will quicksync work with a Quadro GPU, or will I have to use Virtu? I mainly waited for the E3 Xeons because I need ECC memory, but Quicksync with a Quadro would be nice.

Right now the on the Intel® E3-processor graphics will not work with a discrete video card. There is a company by the name of Lucid that is developing software that is to change between the on processor graphics and the dedicated video card based on what is running and what it would get the best performance for the software. I don’t know the status on this software and in what cases it will be useable.

So the E3's graphics output won't do what H61 can? I'm trying to clarify as Lucid's software already works with the IGP on Sandy Bridge consumer boards.

Forgive me, I don’t have any experience with the Lucid software so it may work I just don’t know, I havent head much of anything on it since CES. To my knowledge the graphic set up and performance on the Intel® Xeon® would be the same as on any other 2nd generation Intel Core™ processor with the HD 3000 graphic, and they should perform the same way.

Am I correct in believing that a C20x series chipset with Intel AMT support in chipset with the Xeon E3 xx5 CPUs is not happening? I had seen rumors of such a thing, and want such a thing, but it looks like we're stuck with either poorly done or expensively done IPMI+KVM.

Fill me in... These are 8 physical cores plus HT for 16 cores

How much is this E3 , because

I know the E7 will be 4 to 5 thousand dollars..

sigh

Imagine DUAL CPU motherboard,

Are xeons something that us gamers and tweakers don't need to bother with since it costs 4k a chip and is more. and we wouldnt have money left for a video card LOL

4 cores, 8 threads (with a few exceptions), HD3000 on models ending with 5, ECC support... etc., socket 1155.

Edit: E7 isn't something for the house. A 3.4GHz E3 is ~325.

Farmor its actually 8 cores,, 4 phsyical and 4 HT . Thats 8.

No, its actually 4 cores and 8 threads. Big difference. with HT, all it is does is schedule up to 8 threads, and LOOKS like 8 cores to task manager.

Its still only 4 real cores. And enabling HT only gives you up to 50% more performance, sometimes actually degrades it. I think somebody said 25% average, but I won't stand on that percentage.

I get anywhere from a 15-30% increase on Lynnfield and Westmere Xeons with HT on, so that's on the money.

will these E3's be usable in H67/h61 motherboards? if so can we plug ECC memory into them with the E3?

Do the E3-Xeon's work with any LGA 1155 motherboard?
*Edit, I am looking to build a server for our office and would appreciate motherboard recommendations.

Another question. The server build i reference above would be for a 6 person Architecture firm. Considering the small size, would there be any real world performance advantage to running a Xeon compared to a I7-2600k? We use the Autodesk (CAD & Revit) and Adobe Suites.

I need to clear this up on the Intel® Xeon® E3 processors there are a number of them that don't have graphics on the CPU at all. The Intel Xeon E3-1220, 1230, 1240, 1270, 1280 do not have graphic on the CPU at all. The Intel Xeon E3-1220L and E3-1260L have the lower level Intel HD 2000 graphics and the Intel Xeon E3-1225, 1235, 1245, and 1275 will have the Intel HD 3000 graphics.

the e3-1230 looks like a great alternative to a core i7 2nd gen if you don't care about integrated grahics.

its got HT and 3.2 ghz for only $228 @superbiiz (there is a 15% off max $15 coupon too)

What do you mean they don't have graphics at all? Is CPU graphics just disabled or is it really a 4th SB die?
