so im using both asus AIsuit and core temp to read the temps, both read around 48~50 idle and 80+ on load, that REALLY doesn't seem right. i have a thermalright ultra 120 with a 90cfm fan. i have reseated the cpu and heatsink once already.

what gives? bad sensors? or am i really running that hot

you better reseat that Ultra 120 before burn your CPU out, no way it run that hot unless you using 1.8v or something crazy on the CPU.

I have a 4300 that runs 3.1 on stock voltage with Big Typhoon core temp idle 19~21C and load 33~35C. Does the HS base feel hot? It would burn you at those temps. It would probably also crash! Do you mean degrees F ? Most people use C.

My CPU idles at around 45-50C and hits ~60 on load. I really have to reset the heatsink because I know that Infinity isn't sitting right.

19-20c? Add 15c and thats probably your actual temp.

If you're in the US, thats less than 67 degrees. Do you think your CPU is running at 67 degrees F?

ya i just reseated the heatsink yet again! and ya the temps are in C, im very lost as to what is causing this. another weird thing was, before i got the e4300, my prescott 3.6 would read about 10~15 degrees higher than my old board (abit ag8) with the same clock settings, voltage and HSF. at first i thought maybe it's just mobo error, but then when i got the e4300, core temps are telling me the high temps and it's scarying me.

Are you using CoreTemp to measure temperature?

If not, install it, so we have the same starting point.

There must be something wrong with your heatsink or the way you have mounted it.

1.) Are you using thermal paste and the right amount (which is as thin as posible)
2.) Is the fan spinning? (To a lesser degree) Is there sufficent airflow in the case (maybe open the side door to test)?
3.) Did you install it the right way (->manual)?
4.) What vcore are you using? (should not go above 1.45-1.5V)
5.) Put that bunsen burner away from your mach9ne

BTW i am using a 4300@3.3@1.45V on the same mobo and i get 30 idle/60Orthos with a Scythe Ninja. You definetely should not get more than that measured with CoreTemp

You could have a really bad heat spreader on your CPU. I was running high temps with my zalman so I upgraded to a tuniq 120 and I'm getting the same temps minus like 3 C. I'm running 70-75 C under orthos load with speedfan... but that's at 1.45v

I recently ordered a lapping kit (i know, i'm too lazy to go to walmart and buy the sandpaper). A few sites I've found have shown people getting up to 15C less after lapping. That's how uneven the IHS can be. I decided to do this after removing my tuniq to reseat it annd seeing that the corners of the spreader had bit into the tuniq, but nothing else. I think my processor is VERY concave, so it isn't getting the necessary contact with the tuniq. You may be having the same or at least a similar problem.

Be sure to post the results of your lapping Zambien because I'm about to do the same with my Ultra120 and e6400.

his temps seem about right, it seems like some of us E4300 purchasers got a weird batch,

i'm water cooling mine and i get 28-29 idle, 57-58 load and i have reseated and replapped by block twice now with no difference i'm at 1.4V, the temp really started to increase when i added voltage, 1.8ghz at default voltage ran 23 idle, 36load

it just seems like some of these chips just run hot

BTW i'm 3ghz 334X9 1.4V i'm also using my asus probe

thx for all the input guys!

yes im using thermal paste xD i believe im not using too much
and yep the fan is running properly, i switched to a new powersupply and fan ran faster fine after that, dropped about 5 degrees but that's STILL hot.
and yep the temps are read from coretemp

i haven't lapped the cpu, because i dont even know what that is until myocardia posted that.

currently running at 3229mhz 9x559 w/ 1.45v idling 42 load 72

i will look into lapping the cpu, again thank you guys! i will update how things go

oh and one more question, are the c2d's heatspreader also copper base and nickel top? i dont wanna end up lapping all that nickel just to find out there was no copper underneath that haha

Your CPU should be throttling at that temp I would think. When my core hits 74-75 the volts drop to 1.25 from 1.45. Sucks that alot of 4300's need so much volts to hit 3+.

I'm assuming you are measuring TCase temps with Speedfan?

Those temps are definatley too high so something is wrong. First of all, what is your case airflow like? Secondly, determined if your HSF/IHS are concave at all? Because if they are at all I would definately recommend lapping them.

airflow in my case should be decent if not good. 60+cfm 120mm exhaust fan, +PSU's exhaust, + vid card's exhaust. 2 30+cfm intake in front of harddrives, 20+cfm intake on side, and a 20+cfm intake from top.

90+cfm 120mm mounted to the ultra 120, blowing towards my exhaust fan.

just lapped both the cpu and heatsink, temperatures seem to have not changed at all.
