Hi, I recently bought some corsair 4-4-412 ddr 800 twinx memory, a P5b deluxe w/o wifi and a E6400.

Currently im at:
FSB 423 x8 multiplier
Dram Freq. 846

PCI-E freq 105 sync 33.33Mhz
Spread Disabled mem voltage 2.1V timings 4-4-12-30
Vcore: 1.3275
FSB Term 1.3V
NB Vcore 1.45

I cant get into windows, but cannot pass prime under any tests, any suggestions/options I missed?

Thanks, Rinaun

Your vcore is set below stock

Might wanna try that.

Or perhaps loosen RAM timings or up vdimm.

You shouldn't have to increase vNB or vFSB anymore till you get closer toward 500.

Try bumping the Vcore up to 1.375, 1.4, or higher. That should solve your problem.

Crashed during typing :/ upped voltage to 1.4 436 FSB computer feels a bit sluggish and laggy. Is it worth loosening my timings? Do I lose performance? How do I "up the vdimm"? (is that memory voltage? or something else?)

Thanks a bunch,

Rinaun

EDIT: brb running 3dmark 05 to test temp/stability
EDIT: Nevermind, too sluggish, I know it will either bsod or blank reset.

now up to 1.4275 V memory at 2.1V timings of 5-5-5-12 and CPU at 3.5Ghz (434 FSB)
Now whenever I try to go up I get bsods. I dropped the CPU multiplier to 7, lowered FSB by half and made RAM run at double to test if it was RAM. It was, so what should I do from here?

Cliffs:
CPU at 1.4275V, RAM at 2.1V
it IS the RAM causing this problem
Need to find a way to hit 3.6 Ghz

Any help would be appreciated.

Rinaun, why don't you go for 3.2Ghz (400x8) first? Get your system stable at 3.2 Ghz and then go for 3.4Ghz, and so on, but first go for 3.2 Ghz and run ORTHOS blend test for 6 hours at least, if it passes succesfully, then you can go higher....

You'll need to run your memory @ 5-5-5-15, if not 5-5-5-18. As a matter of fact, I'd try 5-6-6-18. C2D's aren't inhibited by slower memory timings, but, they are helped by higher memory & fsb speeds.

look at ur cpu's box, look for the "batch #", if it says L624A264, then u have a crap cpu like me ...i confirmed it with another one from xs. he's L624A264 E6400 cpu tops out at 425fsb 3.4GHz, and he said 420fsb is good for 24/7.

batch # is important, a lot of peopel with L625xxx been doing 3.6+GHz ...

L624 means year 06 week 24, A is antoher kind of stepping (not liek B1 , B2 .. ) , then rest 3 number is just code

if u have L6xxBxxx, B is a good stepping from what i have seen, but then again it could be all luck.

Because I was stable at 3.2 Ghz, now I know it the RAM causing it.I guess ill just back off my overclock.

Is that why my 6400 has trouble getting past 400FSB, that bites the big one. I can't RMA it because of that though can I. Not that big of a deal though, I'm happy with a 50% OC and it beats the crap out of my old P4 2.4c.

well, im returning my memory to pick up some new memory, any suggestions? Any memory thats spceifically good for OCing? I'd like to keep the budget for the RAM under 320, and i'd like to avoid OCZ because of problems with their brand and my board.

Thanks for all help ,

What kind of RAM do you have now? Corsair is really good, I've heard that Team Group RAM OCs well too.

That is definately hot. Do you know if ZZF monarch or newegg or some other mainstream vendor sells that RAM?

No ZZF/Monarch/newegg don't sell them. But Tank guys is pretty reputable. They shipped on time and I don't have any complaints. I would buy from them again. Give them a try bro, you can't go wrong.

I love my Team Group RAM

lol your making this incredibly tempting, ill get home and atleast start the RMA on the corsair RAM and think about it, 50$ restocking fee FTL

Holy Crap! $50 restocking? From who? I wouldn't buy from there again.

Yeah man, don't worry that Tank Guys isn't as big as newegg/ZZF. Alot of people from XS and around these forums buy from them. They are even nice enough to check the weeks and steppings on Intel's Allendale/Conroe chips for you. Something you can't get from those big guys.

I'd recommend taking a hard look at the details of whatever RAM you're buying. Corsair doesn't appear to be shipping easily overclocked memory any longer - you're now forced to buy all the speed you get unless you take a crapshoot with their value RAM which could be anything.

Note below how Corsair started off with Micron then downgraded to Infineon and then more recently still downgraded yet again to ProMOS IC's which aren't known for overclocking. The newer revisions of most Corsair memory appears to run at the rated speed/timings/voltages without the same headroom for overclocking that Corsair memory used to have. It looks like only their most expensive, top-shelf parts still use the popular Micron D9 IC's.

Other memory manufacturers are using Elpida IC's which seem to have pretty good headroom. It's interesting that Corsair isn't doing the same except with some of their Value Select line.

I like Corsair - they've got great support and better transparency than most mfg's regarding the IC's they're using. Still, given what I've learned about RAM in the past few days, I'm now leaning away from buying Corsair in hopes of finding a better value elsewhere.

I'd be gutted to hit a premature wall because, of all the parts I invested in, my expensive new RAM won't overclock beyond rating. I'd be stuck too since the RAM is performing as rated (never mind what customer's used to get from the same model memory).

Value Select Modules
Value Select modules are built with RAMs that are procured at the wafer level and are packaged and tested to our specifications. As such, they are not available as individual ICs, only as modules. This approach allows us to ship product with very good performance characteristics, low product cost, and a very low return rate.

DDR2 - XMS
XMS, or eXtreme Memory Speed, is the process that Corsair uses to take ICs rated at one speed and verify/guarantee their operation at another speed. Since specifications have not been generated to accurately specify operating parameters, Corsair gives these parts an XMS rating. For example, since PC2400 does not exist according to any valid standards institution, Corsair parts are called XMS2400.

Actually, try the following settings..

5-5-5-15 @ 1.9V ...see will it be more stable?
