There is so much info on overclocking the core 2 im getting a little confused.
first heres what ive got:
gigabyte ds3 F4 bios
2gig (4-4-4 12) Corsair DDR 800
core 2 E6400

I have a zalman CNPS9500 cooler
I dont want to OC more than 2.88 ghz pretty much I want it to be the same as the anand article.

I am confused because it looks like people are using ddr 2 667 ?

From what i understand you just up the FSB (in my case to 360.5mhz)?
do i need to up my pci express frequency?
what do i set the memory multiplier to?
what do i set my cpu voltage control to?

anything else i missed?
i saw the ds3 faq http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=110460 but still confused

well, first just see if it will run stable by turning up the fsb. leaving the voltages alone. if you can get away with that and not turning your ddr2 800 down to 667, then that would be the best performance. if that does not work, turn the ram multiplier to 2.5 so your ram is 667, this will give you more headroom to overclock the fsb. if it still will not get stable at the speed you want, then you can start messing with the voltages.
also, if you want to keep your ram at its high speed (800) then it is ok to over voltage ram a little without any problems at all. ( around +0.2 volts)

Im guessing you noticed this over at xtreme systems forums, that because alot of those guys are using tankguys ddr2 667 ram that does does ddr2 800 speeds and beyond with great timings.

I ordered corsair ram to go with my conroe too, but after reading this whole thread, i may just order some of the tankguys ddr2 667 ram also.

Read that whole thing and you'll get all your answers.

My 6600 / DS3 parts aren't here yet, so theres no sense me trying to give advice on overclocking hardware that i dont have yet, so if i were you, i'd read that thread.
Everything ya need to know is there.

BTW: GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR OVERCLOCKING!

im running super pi right (writing this from my laptop) @ full load im at 52c according to core temp

is that too hot?

I have the exact components you do and I am at 3ghz. Why are you running that DDR2 800 so slow?

Here's what I did.....

First, make sure you are using the CTRL + F1 keys to get into the advanced BIOS settings.

I upped the voltage on all .1v except the CPU and the RAM. The CPU is at 1.35v and the ram is at +.3 for 2.1v which is factory spec for Corsair DDR2 800 4.4.4.12. You also might need to change your timings on the RAM.
I have the memory set at 2.5x for 475mhz and the FSB at 380 for 3.04ghz.
I also set the PCI at 100mhz to lock it in.

I prime95'd it for about 8 hours and it is stable. My temps are 32 for the CPU and 37 for the sytem. I am using a Cooler Master Hyper L3 heatpipe on the CPU and a 120mm fan in back.

Good luck

what kinda of temps are you getting

is your memory 1:1 or does that even matter?

There's no need to up the voltage on the northbridge (MCH voltage). I'm at 425fsb at stock voltage and the NB heatsink was blazing hot even at stock (before I changed the cooler). This is with the F4C bios.

am i too hot then?
are you using core temp for those numbers?

I don't trust Core Temp. I am reading my temps from BIOS and Easy Tune.

Also, thilan29 is probably right on the MCH voltage thing. I just changed mine back to stock as well as the PCI voltage. Will need to test it later though.

when i set the fsb to 380 and ram multiplier to 2.5 it makes the memory frequency 950mhz

That is correct, your ram should run that just fine with a +.3 voltage increase. If it will not pass memtest86, then back it to a 2.00 multiplier, and adjust the timings accordingly. 4-3-3-8 should be very easily obtainable with your ram running at ddr2 780.

*edit* Also, if I was you, I'd shoot for 390 fsb for sure, it seems to be very easily obtainable, even the people with duds seem to be able to hit it.

Your memory is rated to 1066 at 5.5.5.15 as well as 800 4.4.4.12.

I've had my CPU to 3.4ghz, just fine but I am being a little conservative until I know more about overclocking.
