I've seen a lot about people making 2.8 or higher on stock cooling (there was even a thread in here about that), but when I pushed my FSB to 300, my temperature on Intel Thermal Analysis Tool (with cores at 100% load) reached 82 C. Did I just get a HSF, is it not seated right, or is that normal temps at that speed?

Did you apply thermal compound (such as AS5) or did you just use the stuff that came pre-applied to the stock HSF? Also make sure your BIOS is allowing the fan to run at full speed, it may have a quiet operation mode that turns the fan down to reduce noise.

My friend and I cleaned off the stock stuff, and then put on AS5.
The fan is running at 1780rpm, don't know if that's full speed or not...
We weren't sure if we got the heatsink fully on, those little clips were a major pain to attach.
Oh, if it matters, my case is a DiabloTek Demon IV (standard ATX, but on the smaller side of life), with a 120mm intake on front, 80mm intake on the side (near the CPU), and 2 80mm exhaust at rear (near the CPU)

from what i've read, the 965G doesn't overclock nearly as well as the 965P. Not sure if that's the problem, but it's what steered me away from that board.

I had a stock HSF on a E6300 at 3.4ghz with only 1.4v and running orthos the highest temp I saw for 24hours was 72c with coretemp....

I think you need to reapply and follow Artic silvers directions...they have a procedure for dual core intel chips....go to their website and follow the diagrams. Trying to spread over the entire IHS may be too much....trying just a dab in the center does not cover the entire area under the IHS where the dual cores are....finally you could just have a IHS shield that is too concaved and you are not making good contact...

MOst every board I have seen in the gigabyte line....DS3, S3, DQ6, DS4, G models have been able to do at least 400fsb...some may require some active cooling on the NB heatsink though.

"G" models can OC almost as high as others if you dont use the onboard video....which may defaet the purpose...

So if you use the G model you need to do quite a bit of tinkering to gat above 350fsb on that board. some have done it, but it isn't as easy.

I would say get an artic cooler drops your temps by about 10c. Mines is running 1.31v @ 3.45 (490x266) Normal temps with my stock hsf is around 59 in TAT and with load goes to 69c. Thats way too hot for me.
Artic cooling is running for 16.99 at neutron. Thats where i bought it. great deal!!
