An average E6600 should do 3.6 @ 1.4-1.45V

if you need to push more voltage to get 3.6ghz i wouldnt unless you dont load her up 24/7 like i do to all my rigs.

That's why I'm not doing it =) In bios I have to set it to 1.56v actual is like around 1.5v I just don't want it that high I'm at 1.4375v or whatever for 3.375ghz which is like 1.38v-1.4v in cpuz I'm fine with it staying here my temps are way fine though atm. 22c on average idle, at 24C right now because it's kind of warm out. Using my Vigor Monsoon II again which is a MUCH better cooler than the Scythe Infinity from my personal experiences just trying the two this last week. I will see what I can do again with this cooler.

try stock cooler see what temps you have?

ah yes i forgot about that test.
I have got to find that stock cooler. I will try and do that tonight, cant promise because i have to leave for work soon and wont get out till late. I dont have enough time to take everything out and get ready for work, but I will test it i promise. If not tonight, tomorrow.
edit: good news, i found the stock cooler , i also have a CNPS9500LED, i upgraded from that to the Tuniq Tower 120, which is what im using atm.

with the stock cooler, i still get 50-51C idle at stock 2.4ghz
Is there something wrong with the chip?
I also tested the chip in another mobo that has a E6400 stock and idles at 26-28C with stock cooler. And still get the 50C idle with stock cooler and stock speeds. Even after i lapped the cpu, i still get the same results as i did before.
Any Help is Greatly Appreciated. Thanks guys.

I have an E6600 running at 9x334 with 1.30V. With my CNPS9500 running at minimum fan speed, it Orthos loads at 60C. I can't get the FSB any higher than that with 4x1GB of RAM; I think my Northbridge (975X in a P5W-DH) is holding me back, because I've taken the chip to 3.4GHz before, and had it running at 8x401 for a long time with 2x1GB of RAM. My RAM is OCZ Platinum DDR2-800 4-5-4-15 2.1V @ DDR2-835 5-5-5-15 (I can't tighten the timings any, probably because of the NB). I'm gonna play around with memory straps (1:1 and disable Asus Hyperpath 3) and up the fan speed on the CNPS9500 tonight, and we'll see how far I can get.

okey for the record, because people are going to think this cooler is awesome.

Anandtech has shown it to not be as effective as a lapped Ultra120 Extreme. SVC sells the lapped for 20 dollars more and its still cheaper then the monsoon:

http://www.anandtech.com/casec...howdoc.aspx?i=3005&p=5

Second, if you guys really think this can match water here and be prepared to cry:
http://i125.photobucket.com/al...igomorla/ApogeeGTX.jpg

NOTE: pelase ignore my NVIEW TEMPS and PAY attention to my Coretemp. My NVIEW monitor for temps on the CPU is terribly off. It got nowhere near warm to the touch on the backside of the board. And the screenie i took was off the AR revision with a messed up temp probe.

Thats a 37C load temp you see there. So lets please leave the water comparisons out of it. If your loop is getting higer then this air coolers temps, something is wrong with your parts, or your layout. And you should PM ME for advice on your loop.

There is no fundamental way in physics a deciently setup water system will ever lose to any air product. If it does, your loop is seriously messed up.

idling at 35 is really pretty decent for such high OC. But somehow 1.56v is bit high for air cooling, if you got something stronger I would use it.

Hello friends.

I just got done lapping both my E6600 and the Thermalright Ultra120 Extreme. I would love to post the results, but I don't think I can include images here. I took many pictures, including end results.

To summarize, The heat spreader on the E6600 was quite flat. I drew an X with a marker, and after just a few swipes of 600 grit paper, the X was pretty evenly warn. If anything, it was convex (higher in the middle). I finished with 1000 then 2000 grit.

The Ultra120 Extreme was UNBELIEVABLY NOT FLAT! It took 3 sheets of 600 to get the base to reveal all copper. The HS was also convex (higher in the middle), so you can imagine the nightmare matching two convex surfaces. When I first set the system up, before lapping, I noticed the HS seamed to move too easily. I dismissed this as a function of the weight of the HS and moved on.

Short story long...I got 6 to 10 degree Celcius lower temps after lapping, although I think most of that came from the HS. If I had it to do all over again, I would do the HS first and test it out without doing the E6600. A 3 year warranty is a terrible thing to waste.

I was able to get a higher overclock (3.6) as well... 9X400 but at 1.56 volts bios (1.50 volts software), which failed previously. Coretemp and Abit guru both said 55C. Previously 3.6 was unstable, and the temp by Abit guru said 68C! I wasn't using coretemp at the time and don't have a screenshot of the pre-lap 3.6.

I'd love to put this together with some narration, but I don't see any way of making it available here.

I'm going to try and get a better straight edge from work or have my dad get one from his work tomorrow or this weekend a nice small compact one. My starret is all messed up from using it as a scraper and what not =) I want to see just how flat these things are I'm tempted to lap my Vigor(donno if it would be a good idea though) and my cpu if they're both not very flat.

im starting to wonder if my x1900xtx is causing the cpu to heat up more than it should.
idle for it is 49c, with the Fatal1ty FC-ZV9 cooler
i think i might move it down to the second pci-e slot and see if it makes a diff.
</end quote></div>

are both PCIe slots 16x?

i only have a e4300 at 345MHx9=3105 ... at stock voltage ... i find SpeedFan to be ~10C lower than intel's TAT which is really a more accurate measurement of the core temp

anyway, i am also using Thermalright Ultra120 Extreme also with the Scythe 120mm ... i was getting high temp in the beginning, until i RE-applied the HS compound more thickly ... the damn thing screws down so tight - and yet still turns on the CPU - it tends to squeeze out all the compound

i also did some minor lapping [more like polishing] to take the bow out of the Thermalright's contact plate ... i haven't yet tried to push my CPU ... i am waiting for my Crucial Ballistix PC8500 so i don't have to put up with my current disgustingly low divider

ALSO, the thermalright is so TALL, it barely fits in my mid-size Aspire case ... i actually had to move the side-case fan outside of the case

AND it DOES matter on which side of the Thermalright you put the Scythe fan ... it can blow to the back or to the front ... make SURE you get all your cables tied-up to one side for maximum case airflow

also ... i live in the desert and am used to temps in the house at 80F .. to get a really GREAT OC, i need to drop room temperatures into the mid-70s

i get to play with vcore next ... hoping for 3.4Ghz with a 5:4 divider
[i can dream ... but my RAM is the dominator chip downclocked for crucial]

I think that's a bit optimistic. 3.6GHz @ 1.5v is more like it. You have some guys with great bins (3.0GHz @ stock voltages, for example) but I think that most people have to be at 1.45v+ before they can get to 3.6GHz on an E6600.

what other voltages do you guys have to achieve those overclocks?

at moment i have my e6600 at 3.2 with
vcore 1.425
1.2 - 1.45
nb 1.5
sb 1.75
cpu 1.35

though i think i might need to up it a bit as its not very responsive so im actually at 3.0 which is stable

E6600 @ 3.00GHz (333MHz x 9) - 1.28v (BIOS), 1.264v (CPU-Z)
E6600 @ 3.15GHz (350MHz x 9) - 1.38v (BIOS), 1.360v (CPU-Z)

Minimal gains are made when the voltage is raised from 1.28v to 1.38v. I have not tried 3.6GHz yet but I'm going to need at least 1.5v because it will restart on the Windows startup screen at 1.48v (BIOS).
