E6600 or 6750?

Any recommendations about which one of these chips will OC best and produce the fastest system overall with minimal effort? I'm not sure how to evaluate the difference in multipliers and FSB accurately. Thinking of either the Gigabyte DS3R or DS4, or the Abit IP35. And what RAM speed would be correct without OC the memory? Thanks.

Very similar performance among the E21x0, E4xx0, and E6xx0 at the same core speed. Most will be able to hit 3.2GHz (+3.4GHz with a good chip). All will be blazing fast above 3.0GHz. The use of E2160, E2180, E4400, and E4500 will put less stress on RAMs, CPU, and MB. If you have extra $ to spare, then go with E4xx0 due the the larger cache. You can go with the $9 AR HP/Crucial 1.8V DDR2 667 RAMs. Easy 400MHz with 2.0V and 5-5-5-15-2T timing (3.6GHz core speed with a capable CPU).

IF you have some good expensive memory, P35, and good tower cooler you can get 3.6ghz with a E6750 but you can save some money and get a e4400 or e4500 with a Abit P35 and some $9 667mhz ram or ddr2 800 for $50 and tower cooler. or if you are really pressed on money then get a e2160 or e2180. Almost all of these chips will hit 3ghz easy and if you go to the overclock my overclock thread serpent linked then you can see some of these chips will hit 3.3ghz with under 1.45V

get the e6750 since it has the g0 stepping and you are getting a newer motherboard (p35 chipset). say if you had an older motherboard (say a 965 or 650i or older for example) and or a not too great overclcoking motherboard, get the e6600 or e4400/4500 due to their higher multiplier since those older boards may not hit a higher enough fsb for you.

I'd get an E6600. If you can, look for one of those 'B' batch E6600 with 1.25 VID. Very good chance to hit 3.60GHz @<1.35V.

I agree here. My e4400 @ 3.0Ghz in real world applications and use does not feel any slower than my q6600 @ 3.2Ghz. The moral of the story, assuming you will overclock, is $250 (e4400 + decent MB) gives you about same performance as $500 (q6600 + enthusiast board). I have no experience with the e21x0 series but I'm guessing they are just as good.

If you're gaming spend the money you save on a better video card.

For everything else, spend the money you save on a faster HD like the Raptor and mid-end video card. Your overall system will be faster.

Right now you can get an E6750 with a Rosewill tower heatpipe HSF for $190 from Newegg (after $15 MIR), both with free shipping as a combo deal.

No need to pay more than $20 for a good CPU cooler. Big Typhoon open box was on sale three days ago for $18. I don't recommend push-pin CPU coolers. There are a royal pain to install/remove.
