Not sure about the auto voltages i'm pretty sure when i let my auto voltages on it still did it. But then again i'm really doing heavy overclocking compared to stock

So far i'm at 379x9=3411ghz stable running at 1.40 in bios voltages cpu air cooling big typhoon idle 36/37 full load 46/48.

For some reason it won't boot doing the 380x9 combination. I would love to try a higher fsb 400x8 or something similar but not sure how to get my ram set on 1:1 ratio and do i even have to change anything in the dim fields where you put for eg 4 4 4 12.
Currently all my ram is set to auto.
The only thing bugging me is ram.
Any help would be appreciated

Anyway these are my settings incase someone needed to know

Advanced -> JumperFree Conf.:
AI Tuning - Manual
CPU Freq. - 379
DRAM Freq. - AUTO
PCI-E Freq. - 100
PCI Clock - 33.33 MHz
Spread Spectrum - Disabled
Memory Voltage - 2.10V
CPU Vcore - 1.400V
(all other settings on this page - Auto)

Advanced -> CPU Conf.:
Modify Ratio - DISABLED
C1E - DISABLED
Max CPUID - Disabled
Vanderpool - Enabled
CPU TM - DISABLED
Execute Disable - DISABLED
PECI - Disabled

Advanced -> Chipset -> Northbridge:
Memory remap - Leave every thing as normal here nothing was touched cause ram is set to auto

Good luck

Ok, my friend told me to remove the MOBO out the case and try. And it work...well for now...I was able to view the BIOS. So I made no drastic changes but now, it's back to those strange numbers. With not change, I feel this is soo unstable. All I am trying to do is just get it working at stock no special changes. I cleared the BIOS and still no change, no more BIOS. I am getting a second ATI Crossfire graphics card, so I will try again with that.

So far, I am so dissapointed and especially spending over 2500 dollars and can't seem to figure what the hell is wrong. I appreciate the help though. I will continue posting to see and hopefully I can find out what is wrong. I too have those G.SKill Memory sticks, so I will remove the one and replace it with the other to ensure if the module is not mess up too.

This is weird, I removed mem stick and it booted into BIOs. Then on reboot, back to those numbers again. So I just remove the mem stick and relpaced it again and it work. Weird huh?? I am about two seconds away from RMA this damn MOBO already.

Maybe it your ram not the motherboard

Im currently running the 614 bios, however i can not change the multiplier above 7, my only options are 6 and 7.
Is this because i have the e6300?, perhaps my cpu is locked at those multipliers, i would really want to run my e6300 at 9x380 :/,
Perhaps i have to downgrade to 609.

Your correct the E6300 is locked at 6/7 if you wanted to use 9 you should have purchased a e6600

btw why don't your try 460x7 or higher i'm seeing ppl using 520x6

Ah, ok. Yup it works to set a higher fsb .
Im currently running 486x7, 3.4 ghz, for a 6300, feels nice.
However, i need to pick the correct settings for a more stable system.
Im not that into system testing, but im going try to run two instances of prime95 today.

wow - Krazyjack1000 - you're doing well with that E6600 - which week is it ?

I have to use 1.41 in bios Vcore settings for 3.1 gig, and above that 1.44, and above 3.2 1.45+

Mark.

if your running multiplier lower than default you take a big hit in memory performance. the nb gets automatically overclocked doing this

the double restarts happen due to 380+ fsb

Quote:
This behaviour is caused by system's limitation. For over-clocking, the
internal PLL of NB would not lock on the high clock right away, so that means
system could not hold on the clock frequency immediately after reset. That's
why we add a auto-power down scheme to fix this issue. Of course, this
behaviour only occurs at over-clocking scenario.

@Some1ne

Have you tried memory voltage past 2.35 upto 2.45 and nb to 1.65 and also sb on 1.6?

loosened the timings to 5-5-5-15?

hmmm will check the week on chip when i get home but

here are some more figures for you to try from my trial and errors on my e6600 with p5b deluxe set up

stabilty here
357x9=3213ghz vcore set at 1.3625 everyday use nice temps on air etc
360x9=3240ghz vcore set at 1.3750
367x9=3303ghz vcore set at 1.4000
378x9=3402ghz vcore set at 1.41??
401x9=3609ghz vcore set at 1.5000
420x9=3780ghz vcore set at can't remember will look it up when i get home
440x9=3960ghz vcore set at the highest but temps were way too high 65 i think too scared to check for stabilty due to seeing this 65 i need some watercooling to try this

all stable so far that i have tried

I tried higher voltage and looser timing on the bad RAM module, if that's what you mean. It failed memtest @ DDR2-533 CL5-5-5-15, 2.35V. This is in stark contrast to the other one, which passed an overnight run @ DDR2-973 CL4-4-4-12, 2.30V. If that's not a defective RAM module, I don't know what is.

I did not try tweaking the chipset voltages, since I'm not really sure what's safe and what isn't safe in that regard.

its safe to send the sb upto 1.6 and nb upto 1.65 no harm done. ddr2 can be overclocked upto an extreme 3.0v as long as your temps are ok on a certain setting

you had a good oc getting upto 3.5 without chipset cooling

you need extra cooling on that nb

1230 on those g.skill 6400 hz sticks

I, too, am working with the E6600 with the stock HSF, P5B Deluxe WiFi, 2gb Corsair XMS (DDR2 800), 7900GT. I currently have it stable at 334 x 9 = 3.006 following Memtest, Prime 95, StressPrime, and 3dMark06, and am loving it! However, I have three small problems:

1. The RAM Timings are horrible (should be based on the 5-5-5-5-12), but are way out of wack from this overclock (around 6s and 15). How can I adjust it to keep it at its current stability, but regain more reasonable timings around what they should be?

2. Temperature based on Core Temp hovers in the 50s. I know it is rated for maximum of 61, but this is hotter than I would like it. What can I do about this? I have 3 120mm fans working with the case (Antec P180) set to medium, but am wondering if it might be worth it to use another HSF instead of the stock one.

3. When I boot into the Bios, it shows my multiplier set at 9, but if I use the Asus AI Suite to check, it shows the multiplier to be at 6. What's up with that?

Thanks for the help!

You can try running it at a 1:1 ratio, that will give you a speed of DDR2-668, which is slower than specced. At that speed, you should be able to get some better timings on there.

2. Temperature based on Core Temp hovers in the 50s. I know it is rated for maximum of 61, but this is hotter than I would like it. What can I do about this? Have you manually set a vcore in the BIOS? Leaving it on auto when overclocking on the P5B can be a *big* mistake, because the board will automatically ramp-up its vcore as your increase the FSB, and it will go all the way to 1.55V eventually. That's crazy-high if you have air cooling. Use the Asus utility to check your Vcore from windows. If it's more than like 1.42 or so, consider setting it manually in the BIOS.

The CPU voltage is running at 1.384, but is set to auto. Perhaps I should change that and set it manually.

1. Is the "SPD Timings" enabled in the BIOS. If yes, disable the SPD timings and set the rated timing of your RAM.

2.Get an aftermarket HSF. The stock HSF sucks big time and running a C2D on it is a sin:frown:

3. Make sure that C1E and EIST are disabled in the bios. What EIST does it lowers the multi or the FSB when the processor is idle and raps it up whenever needed(much like the Yoanahs and the other mobile counterparts of C2D)

1. Okay, I reset the timings last night to 5-5-5-12, which the RAM is rated for, and NOTHING! I went to reboot, the fans and lights came on, but NOTHING posted. I am unable to use the Asus Drivers/Bio disk for recovery as it is scratched up (don't ask how this happened).

2. Recommendations for an aftermarket HSF?

3. I did disable to C1E, but could not find the location of the EIST to disable this. Where is this located?

Mostly, right now, I just need help getting it back online to post. If I download the BIOS from Asus on a USB Flash Driver, and plug this in, will this help to recover it? Other ideas?

Thanks!

Turn off your PSU's power switch/unplug cord for a bit, & then retry starting up.
If that stills results in a black screen, reset the CMOS.
CLRTC is what the jumper is called, & it's located just under what would be the end of a PCI-e video card (above the SATA ports).

By resetting the CLRTC, will I need to reload the BIOS, or ?????? Thanks, and I will give this a try when I get home this evening.

Okay, I was able to unplug the power and turn off the main switch, which did a great job!!! Thanks for the help!

Now, once again:

1. Recommendations for an aftermarket HSF?

2. Where is the EIST located in the BIOS?

1.I have the Ninja and it's great. Dig this, with stock HSF my load temps were like 63C No OC just stock everything. With the Ninja installed my load temps during full load(ORTHOS running for like 7 hours), was never went above 48C.Granted my E6600 was a week 27 and might running a bit cooler than the other weeks(24 through 26). Anyway, HSF recommendations are totally based on your budget and your OC needs. I wanted to get the Infinity, but read about the mounting problems on my mobo, hence I got the Ninja. I wanted atleast 3.4 outta my E6600. If you are not into OCing and need a good HSF and if you are on a budget, I recommend the Freezer pro.

2. Its in the CPU section of the BIOS where you disabled C1E. It must be right under it, something like Enhance Speed Step something something something.

1. I have seen that a lot of people choose to use either the Scythe Ninja or something from Zelmann for HSF. Do folks have a preference? Budget isn't really a concern for me, but that does not mean that I want to have a "liquid nitrogen water pumped absolute zero kelvinator" either.

2. I must be completely dense because I cannot find the EIST or anything that even resembles the Enhanced Speed Step blah blah blah...for the P5B Deluxe. Could someone give me something more specific as to where to look because right now, I am a complete dunce!

Would the EIST be the "Inter SpeedStep Tech"? If so, this is interesting because this option appears only if the "Ratio CMOS Setting" is disabled, in which case the Inter SpeedStep is also disabled. So, maybe that takes care of it???? Thoughts?
