Ok, here is what i have:

e6600, p5b dlx wifi, corsair xms2 6400 rated at 5-5-5-15 @ 1.9,
coolermaster igreenpower 600w psu.

i try to overclock to 3.4ghz 378x9 and run my ram at 1:1 ratio
at something about 754 mhz stock voltage, but on orthos
tests, my ram is not stable, if i run only cpu torture test, everything
can run for hours, but if i run blend with lots of ram used, i get errors
after a few minutes...

what should i do next and how should i try fix my ram? i would appreciate
any help, thank you.

Hi there - I have the same RAM - its not the best for overclocking (as I'm finding out !)

I have same E6600 and mobo, if you have RAM settings set to SPD, then thats your problem for sure, my RAM won't run over 700MHz @ CAS4, which is the SPD setting for under 800 MHz.

Set it manually to something like 5-5-5-12, @ 1.9V, and you should be OK.

Also what voltage are you running the CPU at ? I sometimes find CPU is fine with small FFT, but won't run blend if Vcore is too low. I have to use 1.45V (in the bios) @ 3.2 gig = 354 MHz, my week 24 unfortunately needs loads of volts !

Just my thoughts anyway - hope it helps,

Mark.

i always set it manually at 5-5-5-12 @ 1.9 but doesn't work... maybe it's really my cpu voltage... i will try , but i run 1.415v at small fft seems to be fine...

If that still doesn't work - then its probably the mobo - they don't seem to like much over 370 apparently anyway - I need too much volts at 360 - so I don't go above there. Reason small fft works is it doesn't put much stress on the motherboard/ram combo ... for instnace if I overclock my RAM too much, small FFT can work perfectly for hours, then run blend and it lasts 20 seconds !

Your other option, which is meant to be less stress on the mobo, but I can't seem to get it to be stable but apparently works for some is to try dropping the multiplier to 8, and doing 401 MHz, then go up from there. Apparently its at a different "strap" so more likely to be stable, but I can't personally get it to be stable with my setup, but many have.

Good luck, Mark.

Well it could also be because of the E6600. Many have problems getting high FSB speeds with that chip. On an E6400 or E6300, they seem to get the highest FSB.

As buckster said, you may be able to drop the multi down to 8 and get higher. But its still a crap shoot. You may or may not be able to get more.

Yes - I've now given up to get above 3.2 gig on my E6600 - just receives more and more volts for tiny increases.

I've settled at 3.18 gig @ 1.4375V (bios)

BIOS vcore is irrelevant. Use CPU-Z while running orthos and see it there. Intel's vdroop really shows. Mine drops like .05vcore .

Run your memory at 2.1v. Corsair recommends this for anything above pure stock (FSB CPU and memory).

My memory is rated at 5-5-5-12 @ 1.9 and I run 2.1v at 5-5-5-15 @ DDR2-1000

Cmdrdredd - you have the XMS2-6400, CAS5-5-5-15 stuff ?

Mine won't run at all over 2.0V - won't do more than 1-2 mins in Orthos above 2.0V, 2.1V and it will hardly boot

It's this model TWIN2X2048-6400 Purchased from zipzoomfly and it's rated at 5-5-5-12 @ 800Mhz with 1.9v and it boots fine at 1.8-2.1 for me. I haven't tried higher, but don't need to. I've done DDR2-1100 @ 5-6-5-18 and currently sit at 5-5-5-15 with 2.1v @ DDR2-1000.

When I was having memory issues at first with any overclock I checked on the Corsair forums and everyone was told to run 2.1v on the memory when overclocking. I tried it and it allowed me to get more out of it.

I must have a bad batch then - as it runs fine within its specs, but anything over 2.0V and its awful.

Even @ 800 MHz, 1.9V is fine, BUT if you raise it to 1.95 - Orthos lasts 3 mins or so, 2.0 and above, 1-2 mins.

Currently best I'm managing is 720MHz @ 4-5-5-15, which gives half respectable scores.

can I ask what your memory states in CPU-Z please cmdredd please ?

mine is CM2X1024-600 Week 29, Year 06

I'm using them in the yellow slows on the P5B Deluxe.

cheers, Mark.

i tried 2.1 voltage, no luck, i think i might need to play with timings on that high fsb...
mine is same, week29, year06...

cmdrdree, what voltages you give for m/b settings, those 3 ones... set on auto? or changing something?

right... so i tried lots of different things with ram timings, voltage.. at 378x9 nothing worked, couldn't get memtest pass...

so i clocked to 367x9=3.3ghz@1.4(bios), 5-5-5-15@1.9, memtest passed to 6th step, then skipped now trying with orthos, but
seems to be alright, no problems so far.. cpu -z shows ram timings at 4-4-4-13 though they are set at 5-5-5-12... strange...

so what could be the reason of not being able to go 3.4 ? maybe m/b chipset voltage? now it's set to auto... but increasing voltage
probably would be not safe, as heatsink now is at 50 degrees celcius...

oh , i tried changing 8x420=3.4 ghz i got some interesting stuff , during post system shows cpu freq 16 ghz , mem tests
still don't pass and system won't post for the 2nd time.....

so, any ideas what i should try more to reach 3.4 ghz ?

Have you done a bios upgrade recently ? I know I said that 8*401 wasn't stable, well after bios upgrade, I tried it and PC would hardly boot/ and sometimes not post - Bios stated 16 gig ! even though it wasn't.

I cleared the CMOS using the jumper on the board, and it now states the correct speed in the bios, not 16 gig anymore, its still not Orthos stable, but it will boot into windows.

50C - whats that your mobo temp ?

What sort of temps are you getting with your E6600 under Orthos ? At 3.22 which I'm at now - I get 55C max load using TAT for temps.

buckster, yup, i have upgraded to latest bios, i see 16 ghz, bootup to memtest, it fails, then i try to restart and system won't post, so i just put back 367x9.

50 celcius is m/b heatsing located below the cpu, i have put a thermometer there, it may not be acurate very much, but still the heatsink
is quite hot...

at 3.2 i get about 55 degrees with coretemp, but cooler touching by hand doesn't indicate that, even at the closest place to cpu where i can touch it.. it's barely warm...

what do you set your nb vcore? set it to auto?

Execine - have you reset the CMOS using the jumper on the motherboard ? After doing that - the 16 gig went away - and it would restart and post properly.

yup, i tried 2 times... if i reset cmos with jumper, all settings go to stock then i tried again setting 420x8, again same thing...
btw, my ram is the same, week29, year 06...

cpu-z in timings window now show 5-5-5-15, 367mhz, this is what i set up manually...

I can hit 400MHz FSB on a P5B Deluxe with the NB/FSB voltages set to the lowest values. Try in the memory timings to set:

-the TRFC to 42
-Write to Precharge Delay to 14
-the Rank Write to Read Delay to 11.
-disable Static Read Control

I just tried a test ....

set memory to 800 MHz - stock in bios - at SPD settings ... then ran Mem Test in dos ..

@ 2.1V - memory fails at test 5 - 380 errors in that test alone
@ 1.9V - memory passes

Looking at Corsair support forums, normal solution before RMA'ing when people have problems is "check the RAM works at 2.1V at stock" - well it doesn't.

Anyone have any ideas? Perhaps the heatsinks aren't installed properly or something ? I really don't know ?

Is it like CPUs .. in that say if I need 1.35V for 3 gig but I set 1.42V and run CPU at 3 gig - it will run fine, just using more volts than it actually needed.

cheers, Mark.

why it should run at 2.1v if it's stock voltage is 1.9v ?

accord: 400 mhz with 8 or 9 multiplier?
