e6600 temps

I have recently just purchased a conroe system and have put it together. I have an E6600 and a p5w! i've put everything together, wiped off the thermal compound that came with the heatsink in isopropyl alcohol and have applied some arctic silver 5. (applied it twice, first time to check for concavity and it doesn't appear to be any, how do u see anyways?) The cpu temperature that i'm being reported in the bios is 64.5 degrees celcius while the mobo temp is around 30. I haven't installed windows yet, so i can't test with any other software. Is the mobo sensors reporting me the wrong temperatures? or is it that soemthing is wrong with my heatsink? The bios reports that temperature after just turning it on for not even a minute!

Please advise!

At this point in time, one must assume that your cpu temp is correct.
Install your O/S and then download speedfan to check your temps again.

I use a Craftsman non-contact IR Thermometer to get accurate readings.
If you have a Asus board, Asusprobe should give you some readings.

On AT, some members have cited higher temps. My AMD temps at load is 45C. My old Intel rig's CPU had 55C/ 60C at load. Its not unusual for your CPU to be high. If temps scare you, you can always use a Vornado to cool your system temporarily.

the heatsink is warm and the fan is spinning at like 1900 rpms! i put ac5 about this big

[xxxx] by this high [xxx] and i believe its okay! but it doesn't show the temps,

should i even risk damaging it by installing the os?

The only stress test I know of on a bootable (ISO - CD or floppy) is Memtest86. Sometimes it will reveal the failure of L1/l2 caches - look at the memory size in the error table if present.

That temp does sound high however some systems when sitting in the BIOS will heat the CPU core just as much as if you were in Windows running Prime95!

The worst that will happen if you load Windows and there is a problem is the system will restart, crash or lock up. The processor will not be damaged from this.

i just installed windows and in everest, it says 63 degrees as well! i've never installed 775 heatsinks before but all u do is push it down and thats it rite? I tried wiggling the heatsink rite now and it doesn't move at all! I'm gonna get an arctic freezer 7 but if it doesn't solve the issue, what may be wrong?

It seems like a lot of these systems are reporting bogus temps.

it seems like the heatsink wasn't secure! now in everest, i have idle temps of 31 for cpu, and 45 for core 1 and 2. Is that normal? I remember when i had a venice it was cpu temps of 32. What are the lowest temps for the cpu and the cores of e6600s?

Do not compare temp readings to other systems!

Those numbers are within acceptable limits.

That's about what I get, 35-40C.
