People didn't think that was the case?

People did think, but were expecting more. In other news.. the G0 Q6600's seem to do better than the B3 steppings.

don't tempt me. I wish that I had been more patient and waited for the g0 Q6600 right now. maybe if I end up over 3.5 with decent voltages I'll be less pissed...
just booted at 6x437...going for 440 now...wish me luck.

Dang, I am at 7x450 with my Q6600 B3. I thought the 6750 was a G0 stepping.... Was that 6x437 a typo ????

How do you know they are G0 ? They are only $320, but doesn't say the stepping...

ok, 440 woiuldn't do anything. I looked at the digital post error code display and it showed 00. then it tried to boot after a few seconds ...and failed again, showed 99 this time. neither of these is in the manual. I had already tried 450, so I figured...hey, maybe there's an fsb hole...and it booted at 6x460. I did change the memory to the 1066 strap (1:1 and 1:1.2 are 1333, 1.25 moves down to 1066). I'll try to boot with memory back at 1:1 and see what happens. I won't be able to go much over 460 at any multiplier at 1:1.25 b/c I'm already at ddr2 1150. I relaxed the timings all the way to 6-6-6-21 just to try to get it to boot. I downloaded the beta bios which is supposed to let you manually adjust the straps. Now if I can just find that floppy disk...

yeah, um, failed orthos after 8seconds at 6x460.

mark, I haven't been able to get over 437 to post until now. It's either an fsb hole or the straps are killing me. I'll be back presently with the answer. Hopefully.

I can boot and run at 7x460 for a while, but then it hard lockes. But I have PC 8000 memory.

most recent review was a B3. he was disappointed b/c there were so many slacr's in there, too, so it's still somewhat a crap shoot.

ok, it looks like it's definitely an fsb hole. I booted at 6x460 1:1.

ok, 6x468 was the highest I could go. I'm running at 8x454 right now but I'm at 1.5 v Need to get that down a bit.

had to go down to 8x439 to keep vcore below 1.5. Bracketed fsb hole at 439 (good) 440, 445, 450 (bad), 451 (good). vcore at 1.47 again so I'll probably go down to 3.4 or so to get reasonable temps.

I had mine running ORTHOS for a few hours at 8x462 = 3698 1.475v (Bios).

Here is the odd thing, I ran ORTHOS for over 26 hours before I stopped at 7x500 1.45v (Bios). It also ran at 7x508 in ORTHOS for 3 hours before I stopped it.

I'm currently running at 7x511 = 3577 1.45v without error.

I have even booted at 3.9GHz at 1.55v (Bios)

All of this on Air with a eVGA 680i MB and the P30 Bios and temps around 53-59C according nTune.

Your experiences with E6750 seem to be in line with mine.

Took mine to 8x450=3600 Mhz @1.55v Vcore-BIOS, but Orthos failed after 46 mins. Seemed to be stable if I lowered to 7x450 with everything else the same, so I assumed it was the CPU (and not FSB wall or too low voltage on northbridge etc). Too high voltage though so I decided to go lower FSB.

Trying 8x438=3504 Mhz @1.485v Vcore-BIOS as I'm writing this (@1.475v failed). Stable so far, but only for 30 mins yet. Core temps at 59C with Tuniq @ 2100RPM. (Thats with PECI disabled and +15 added to SpeedFan's core temps)

Vcore readings in Windows differ quite a bit from the BIOS setting. For example, with 1.485v Vcore-BIOS, SpeedFan reports 1.456v (during load). Kind of a big drop no?

For all above I've set the memory to 1:1 @5-5-5-18, 2.1v.

You have a better chip by far than I do. I can't do anything over 468. I let it run last night for an hour on orthos at 3704 but vcore was stupid at 1.64. kept inching down vcore b/c I didn't want to run 24/7 over 1.5, now I'm at 1.47v and 8x435 stable. I still need to fine tune the mem and chipset voltages but otherwise I'm done. I was very suprised at temps since everyone seemed to think that the vcore was out of this world, it only ran 64c absolute max with orthos running an hour last night and 2xseti@home running after that until this am. now it runs at 50c full load, which is significantly lower than many get and also much better than my opteron 180 in the file server. I guess that tuniq and p900 are doing their job .

well, I loaded a beta bios and upped vdimm to 2.2 which is what it's rated at, and got it to boot finally at 440 and 450. Sorry @ all the other abit people, I was wrong to blame the mobo for my memory/chip problems. It looks like our systems are almost identical. My temps run a few degrees cooler but your voltages are a little bit better. I am also losing about .03v during load, that's the one thing that almost got me to for the more expensive asus mobo. I'm not exactly happy at 3.48 & 1.47v, but I have good temps and it's pretty darn close to what most others are at on an e6750. I'm just going to hold my breath and pray for good prices on penryn in 9 mos. I mean, seriously, how can sombody survive playing civ4 and kotor with only an e6750 @3.48??? I might not be able even play the games...
btw, what do you think is better on mem? I have 1066 mem, am I better going 4:5 and getting around 1050 or trying for 3-4-3-10 at 1:1?

KOTOR? I'm only going to play Tetris on this machine hehe

Hmm OK, so voltage drop is normal. I suppose it's the value in Windows (SpeedFan, CPU-Z) that is important?

I agree with you, I'm not overly happy with 3.5 Ghz @ 1.46v, but I guess it will work for a while.
(Orthos stable for 1 hour now BTW)

Good question - higher mem divider or lower timings. Thought about it myself, but haven't tested anything yet. I will probably run a few 3Dmark06 runs and see which is faster (as it's games that's important for me). Memory benchmarks, bah!

Always take the memory out the equation when you probe for maximum core speed. 1:1 divider with 5-5-5-15-2T.

yeah, I ran it at 1:1 on auto timings when I was working on the oc combo of stability/performance/heat. Now that I've settled on 3.48 I'm going after everything else.

Well, turned out that 3504 Mhz wasn't even Orthos stable @1.5 Vcore-BIOS.

Now aiming for lowest possible voltages with 3400 Mhz.

Doh. At least I'll be able to play Tetris. ;(

I think our chips are twins. mine seemed stable for 30 min-1hr at 1.49 vcore 3.504 but...it just wasn't. I'm actually at 1.48 instead of 1.47. I know that's probably a bit too high but, hey, if the cpu blows up in a year then that will just be an excuse to get a penryn Besides, the tuniq is keeping temps well under control which is the big problem that people have with air. In fact, I think that I saw aigo say in another thread that the tr120ux or tuniq are the only air coolers to get on a quad. If this is good enough for a quad then it should be good for an extra 2/100 vcore on a c2d, right?

That's what I'm hoping. I will find out Monday. I thought I was getting my rig tomorrow but Neweggs shipped it from Tennesse and UPS does not deliver sat. See my rig below.

I've never been so mainstream. we have everything but vid card and mobo in common. I don't really count the memory as different since mine is really just oc'd pc 6400 anyway.
