I have read that Artic Silver takes 50~100 cycles (warm to hot to warm again) before it is totally setteled in, which will drop temps 1-2c additional.

As for the size of your tower...here is a Pic of my Ninja in the same case. I have to pull my board to remove the HS...real pain in the A$$.

Thanks fatboy...I lost all my latest pics with the additional hard drives and memory..oh well, they all look the same.

I will say that leaving my quad and going back to my 6750 was the best thing I've done in some time. The quad with 8GB was just too much on this board...lots of vdroop and the such. No it's back to 29c idle and nice and quiet.

Hey, just found this thread and am thankful for all the info provided. I have this chip and board and am looking to improve my overclock. Noticed that this thread has some recent posts so thought I'd throw a question. Mrfatboy, why did you set your Refresh to ACT Delay 42 [0]? I have all those settings on auto. I'm not of high technical knowledge, this is the first system I've OC'd, but the third I've built, so I'm not a novice either.

Right now I'm trying to get better stability @ 3.4 GHz and then try to reach 3.5 or 3.6GHz. I was stable at 3.4 at one point, 8 hour Prime95 no errors, but now I'm not sure what has happened. It has gotten warmer here and some dust has accumulated since I put everything together 6 months ago (I try to keep it as clean as i can), but my temps on load are still staying at 55C or below so I don't know if that's it. I think my ambient has risen about 4-5C though. Used to be 19-20C, now usually 23-25C. The one thing, I can't remember if I did that Prime95 test when I had my timings at 4-4-4-12 or at 5-5-5-18. I have run Memtest for 8 hours with my current setup with no errors (4-4-4-12).

I'm really concerned about the vDroop on this board. CPU-Z reads 1.360v idle, when I start the stress test, v-core droops to 1.328v @ 100% load. Northbridge is set to +0.1v and DDR Overvoltage @ +0.3v. Past what I said above, my settigns are identical to mrfatboy's on the original post. CPU Voltage in BIOS is set to 1.3875v. Any point that you would want to change the FSB Overvoltage from Normal?

Anyways, gonna play around with it this next week. Any advice is much appreciated.

tierce,

I'm glad you found this thread helpful. The Refresh to ACT Delay that I have set is default I believe. I believe there was a discussion in this thread about it. It's been so long but I don't think it made a difference one way or the other (42 or 0).

I have found that nobody has ever needed to adjust the FSB overvoltage to achieved a good OC.

Have fun.

My set up

E6750 @ 3.2 (400x8)
4x1 gig DDR2 800 @ 400 OCZ Gold PC2-6400 2.2V
P35C-DS3R rev 1.1
EVGA 8800GT 512mb
Vista 32bit

Voltages:

CPU: 1.35v
RAM: +0.2v

have been using f2 bios since August with the above setting and bios stable for half year, since im planning on changing to 45nm quad (not purchased yet) i tried to :

1. flash the bios to f10
2. keep all the bios settings (all oc values as of b4 flash)
3. bsod before windows start, memory dumping thingy shows up
4. reset bios to default values
5. all stable and good
6. try oc setting again that used to be stable b4 flash
7. bsod again
8. download f8 from gigabyte.com
9. flash to bios f8
10. same thing as f10
11. have to reflash to f2
12. everything is fine again like i didnt touch the bios update

now i wanna ask if f2 is the best bios for oc? i even tried higher voltage for cpu and ram and with bios f8 or f10 bsod before windows splash screen

but with f2, i can play with all oc value and all stable

weird...

oh btw, my 3.2ghz temp 35c idle, 45c load, room temp 20c, in antec 900 case all fan mid, nmedia something heatsink (the 4 copper heatpipe one)

I'm still at f4g. I'm stable and I'm not changing it I have only read problems for the higher bios'. It's been awhile but if you look back in this thread there was a discussion on f6-f8 i think. Minor changes with EIST and smart fan stuff... I think. Nothing that affected OC.

If it ain't broke don't fix it

thanks for the quick reply

hm... yea i always insist if nothing goes wrong i wouldnt flash the bios, but since i want to get a x3350 i want to flash it first so when i get it i will just plug and play (you know when you are excited with new stuff you dunno how to do serious thing like bios update...)

yea for now i would just stick with f2

Question about the CPU Voltage Control setting in the BIOS, i need a little more volts to my CPU so i set the value at 1.35000V from the default (i know big jump), but when i reboot and go back into the BIOS under PC Health Status, it shows that i am only pushing 1.280V? So, is that number in the MB Intelligent Tweaker section of the BIOS a maximum, or is my power supply not good enough to push the correct voltage to the CPU?
Thanks,
Chris

Edit - this is a third build with a GA-EP35C-DS3R rev 2.1 with an older E6700.

Running @ 8x351 w/ ocz platinum ddr2 ram @ 1.9vdimm (4-4-4-15). can't believe how high it overclocks w/ just stock voltages and heatsink. amazing.

This is my first post here so take it slowly I cant past my signature ocs no matter how far i push vcore and bouth vdrop im very disapointed as i get 1.5125 in bios and it drops under full load in CPU-Z 1.424 idile at 1.488 and in my opinion thats a damn big vdrop so any1 have some suggestion how can i get pass 3.6.

P.S. Sry for my eng im much better in talking then writing

it's been awhile since I played around with my setup but it sure seems like your chip required a lot of power. Much more then the standard e6750. You are running 2x2g which is stressing the board also. Try just using 1x2g and see if that helps. Otherwise, refer to the beginning of this thread for exacted Bios configurations. 3.6 seems to be the standard max and rarely goes higher.

yea i tried the setup with 1x2gb of ram but it didnt make difference and i have exactly same setup as my brother whos living in apartment above me (difrence is only board p35-ds4 and Tagan 620 PSU and he got 3.6 with just mild overvlolting so the question is is it a board or psu or he just got more luck with the damn chip.

You can't be 100% certain if it's either your board or the chip. You could always swap your chip with your brother's and that would pinpoint what the problem is.

anybody try ddr3 ram on this board? overclocking? they have a sale going at Fry's, 4 gb ddr3 1333 cas 9 for 60 bucks or 4 gb ddr2 cas 5 for 60 bucks...trying to figure out which would be best bang for the buck real world gaming between the 2.
