Just to be safe, when I completely remove the old RAM and install the new is there anything I need to do before or after, or can I just swap them and all is well? I have read a ton about resetting the CMOS, etc. I was not sure if this is something I need to do. I planned on resetting all defaults and restarting, then powering down and changing the RAM and PSU. Then powering back on. FYI, the current ram default timing is 5-5-5-18 @ 800 and the new ram is 4-4-4-12 @ 800. I just don't want to run into any problems.

Yeah, if anything, I would just bring back stock values, let it boot, shutdown, and start replacing. Don't be upset if your new RAM is not automatically set to 4-4-4-12. Nine times out of ten it will not be, just change it manually and let us know. Good luck!

can anyone give me some guidance on how to setup raid on a p35c? i've never done this and the terminology in the manual is new to me? i would like to setup a raid 0 with 2 160 gig drives just so my games load faster. i plan on giving windows it's own drive. it's raid worth it or is it a hassle?

Ok, I've got the new memory and PSU installed. Now I'm having a weird problem. When I try the settings that MFB posted, the PC fails to boot 2x like before, but now on the 3rd when it used to come up all the way and I could go back into BIOS, the PC is on like it should be but the monitor is showing the AMBER LED like there is no signal??? I'm not sure what to do now. FYI, I ran Memtest and passed all with no errors. Any ideas? It seems that I'm not having much luck with the OC.

It sounds like it's not liking you OC.

You need to start at the beginning and work you way up to see what your system can do.

I don't want to get confused like I did last night. And yes, I am drinking Rum and Coke now

Does your system boot with everything at stock? Let's try that first. Then work our way up.

I should be here for a while to help. It might be better to PM me for quick responses.

Yes to both.

You should be following the directions on page 71. There's lot's of pictures to follow.

First go here and download "Intel ICH9R SATA RAID Driver" I can't remember if running this file will let you build the array right from Windows, or if you have to do it after the post screen by pressing <CTRL-I>.

I went from the Intel, orange, SATA ports to the purple Gigabyte ports and RAID performance dropped about 15% according to HDTach. I'm itching for a reason to switch back.

I would not have your Windows drive plugged into the motherboard when setting up your RAID. I'm also honestly not sure if you can have non RAID disks in the same orange ports as RAID disks, or how that would affect performance. I've always had windows on a single disk in one color, and the RAID array in the other.

I'd also make the first partition on your new RAID be your page file. I hope some of this makes sense. 8)

Most likely yes. However, the biggest issue seems to be with the DDR2/DDR3 overvoltage control. The two boards handle the voltages differently. Of course, the different bios versions affect the voltages differently also.

Just make sure your vdimm voltage is really outputing what you need. Use speedfan 4.33 and check vcore2. Don't fry your ram!

Well, MFB and I worked on this for a while last night and didn't make a whole lot of headway. It seems that we can not get my RAM to the correct voltage for some reason. Even after adding +.4v it was still below the 2.1v required to maintain 4-4-4-12. At this point it could be a BIOS issue being that I'm running F8. Does anyone know how to go back to an older BIOS?

3.4GHz - 1.41875v in BIOS
3.6GHz - 1.5v in BIOS
1.5V? Whats the stepping & batch? 3.6GHz is 12 hours stable on 1.3825V I used to use 1.35V for that, but I got an error after 10 hours and kept having it until 1.3825V. I also hit on a FSB wall now it seems. Even 1.6V won't work with FSB/NB +0.3V. Sucks, low volt, low FSB wall.

Use @Bios. You can flash it in Windows and it works perfect (It's Gigabyte Software).

Make sure you DON'T use "Find BIOS From Gigabyte". Just browse to the .F* file. (p35ds3r.F9 for me)

Sort of guide:

-Install @BIOS(o'rly)?
-Download your BIOS file. (for me motherboard_bios_ga-p35-ds3r_f9.exe)
-Extract your BIOS file. (Results in: FLASH895.exe, autoexec.bat, p35ds3r.f9)
-Run @BIOS
-Click OK when it will shutdown EasyTune etc
-Click Update New BIOS
-Browse to the BIOS file (p35ds3r.f9 for me)

Thanks. I was too lazy to type all that out. :wine:

It's the good old G0 stepping - the batch I do not know and not about to find out if looking at the CPU is the only way to tell. It just seems like I got a voltage-hungry chip. At what speed do you hit the FSB wall, 3.8GHz+?

OK, this is starting to really suck. This is what I have tried so far and the respective vcore2 voltages that show up in Speedfan 4.33 on stock settings.

F2 1.82
F4 1.82
F7 1.74
F8 1.82

Oddly enough, I can't get anywhere near my memory's spec'd 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1 v. I've added, as much as +.4v and checked SP again, the most I've gotten is 2.02v. WTF? I callled Gigabyte and the Tech Support rep said that I should be using F7 b/c it should fix this issue, that's how I got to that BIOS version in the first place. I'm having no luck at OC at all. It can't be the memory. I ran Memtest and past all tests 3x's. What gives?

I used to run it at 3.8GHz, but I got an error after 9-10 hours somewhere, which kept showing up unles I benched on 3.6GHz so I clocked it back. It's a loss in 3DMark (200 points) and SuperPI (0.5), but no noticable difference in gaming.
I tried:
NB +0.3V, PCI-E +0.3V, FSB +0.3V, nothing changed.

3.6GHz is great for gaming, but I was hoping on 3.8-4.0 stable, because of my low voltage.

I can't help but ask about your RAM timings. I tested several different combinations and found my fastest/tighest timings to be 5-5-4-10. Now I know many people argue that the formula to find the right number for the last set (tRAS) is CAS + tRCD + 2, but I find the when you leave the + 2 out, it runs faster. In my experience, anything below 10 means less performance. I also found that reducing tRP from 5 to 4 improved write speeds. Try setting your tRP to 4 and compare benchmarks.

It sounds like it's time to RMA the board.

FYI, I have just had another 2gb pair of Ballistix go bad. Thankfully I had backups. That makes 2 pair that have went bad since Aug. I wonder if it's just the ballistix or if this board eats them

Since I use 2 PC6400 kits, I will PM you once they say "boom" .

Kinda offtopic, but: 3DMark '06 - 12828 marks <- is this XP or Vista? Also, the 8800GTS, is it a stock-overclocked version? (Overclocked when you buy it) and/or does it have better cooling?

I get 12416 with my E6750 on 3.6, 8800GTS on 700/1050/(1750 shader) in Vista that is.

All the info is in my sig. It is a stock evga 8800gts. No additional cooling. I am running XP Pro. I'm 50mzh faster than you 8800gts memory.

if you look back serval pages in this thread somebody had a XFX 8800gts 320 that broke 13k 3dmark score at lower clocks. He did have an aftermarket cooler on it.

Yea, I didn't mean like: Yours is clocked worse than mine. I was just wondering how EVGA overclocks.
