E6750 temps on stock cooler

I put my E6750 + GA-P35-DS3L system together last night, ran memtest86 for a couple of hours to make sure everything was OK with the defualt BIOS values, then installed XP to take a better baseline of the system before I start overclocking it.

My experience over the last 10 years is with AMD chips, this is my first foray into Intel-land, so I'm being a bit cautious. the cooler installation system for the stock cooler is hrrrible compared to AMD coolers, and doesn't inspire confidence.

With Orthos running the temps stablized around 56 degrees. This seems high to me (by comparison my Athlon X2 4400+ ran in the high 40s)

Is this normal for this Intel chip, or is my cooler improperly installed?
I'm using the ootck cooler, althouh I did strip the thermal tape it cam with and used Arctic Silver paste instead.


Also the "system" temp, wchi I assume in the northbridge, is reported at 45 degrees, again this seems high for a system I haven't even started to overclocik.


(by the way I'm running coretemp 0.95.4 so I assume the temps are right, and I *don't* have to add 15 degrees, otherwise I really *am* running too hot)

56 is fine IMO. Anything under 60 and its fine IMO

Way too hot, my E6750 was running at 40 C or less idle, and 46-48 max on load, with temperatures measured with Intel Desktop Utilities as my mobo was an Intel DP35DPM. By the way cooling should improve as the thermal compound 'matures'...I think that can take upto 200 hrs of use....

You're fine at 56C on Coretemp. Many people aren't using the right version of coretemp to get the true temp.

I am at 65C on Coretemp under load overclocked to 3.6GHz. It definitely fluctuates though depending on room temperature.

How's that? He's using coretemp to measure his temps so 56 is the tjunction, not the tcase. Even if this was the cpu temp, it still isnt too hot. I hit 56C tcase, 66C tjunction under orthos load which is fine. Granted this is at 3.6GHz & 1.46v. 56C is slightly high for non-OC settings but then its what you can expect with the Intel supplied hsf. These cpus are rated to a max tjunction of 100C although I'd say 70C is the max core temp I'd be willing to accept.

Yeah 56C loaded is fine. What are your ambient temps?

<70 is fine for orthos. You are going to be lower on normal activities. I wouldn't worry.

cool thanks. Of course I haven't started OC'ing yet, but I don't *plan* on going past 3.2
Guessing ambient is 25-28 celsius?. I need to put a thermometer in my basement.
