E6850 Lapping-How's the ihs on yours? Concave or reasonably flat?

Anybody check their E6850 for flatness yet? Are they still sending out concave heatspreaders?

I don't know but probably. I don't think intel has ever shown any interest in making their ihs flatter.

I just got in on the pentium 925 deal and it's heat spreader was concave as well.

how do you check if it is flat? i have one with me.... cant play with it til i get home

use a razor blade to hold it at a 45deg angle against the surface of the heatspreader. look at where the two meet as you move it across the surface and see if you notice any gaps.

Mine looks very good against a razor blade. Not perfect but not concave imo.

Another method thats a little more involed, but more difinitive then the razor trick, is to place a small droplet of water on the IHS and place a pane of glass/mirror onto it. If the IHS sticks then the surface is flat. If there is no cohesion then you should lap.

well i tired what you told me with the water drop on the ihs and it stuck to the glass

so this means its flat?
