Seriously though, I've only seen a few weeks worth of lot/pack dates (mine is a 12/20/07). But I can't imagine Intel "turning off" fabs or assembly/packaging ops, so what happens ... do they ramp down production rates or are they stockpiling inventory ? A ramp down might explain the "missing" E8500 too ?

It's bad enough for sales of old C2Ds with the release of the e8400, when they release the e8200 at its MSRP of ~$180 it will be the end of the e6xxx, because even a $20 savings for something like an e6550 wouldn't be worth it, and an equally-priced e6750 really wouldn't. It would even cut into q6600 sales. So I have no doubt Intel is holding back. They're probably sitting in a warehouse somewhere in Malaysia right now, tens of thousands of them.

That is unless you like your fans to spin down based on temperature... I don't know about you, but I prefer to not have my fans run full speed while the screensaver is on!

I have an E8400, and while I don't believe that it's overheating, the lack of accurate temperature measurement wreaks havoc with the BIOS and software.

The processor itself is awesome for the price, but if I had to do it over again, I'd probably wait for C1. :thumbsdown:
