I've been hearing a lout of gouge claims from newegg lately. Is it just a seasonal or item-specific thing? Or is newegg less-than-stellar these days?

Egg has auto-gouging technology which they enable for non-sale items. When people dogpile on to buy popular products the price auto-gouges until supply equals demand.

I think intel will make as many CPUs as people want to buy, so I'm going to wait a week to get mine.

It says 209 now, but its retail, and the egg is OEM !

Actually the egg is for retail. They just have a picture like it is OEM; but the description shows that a HS & Fan is included.

I went ahead and picked up one from Mwave for the $209.00. Now I'm just waiting to hear that it is shipping out today.

So maybe shipping at newegg isn't free after all. LOL. You're still paying for it, you just aren't aware of it. Plus $7 for handling I guess? Hey, why not? (says the programmer for new eggs accounting dept.)

Seriously though, I have had it with newegg for purchasing just released products. I won't buy a newly released gouged product from them. Newegg is excellent for established product pricing however, and I will continue to use them for just that purpose. But for new items? I'll go elsewhere. All those who wish to change my mind (for whatever reason), please don't try.

Your choice is not to buy it at these high prices, but many will. That is why they price it so high.

they have a huge highly UN-educated computer people so if they set prices real high when something comes out, all the people that get there moms/etc to pay for things will jump right on the deal without thinking. its a shame some people dont research items before hand because i know newegg is probably selling these things by the truckload. figuratively speaking of course

its the egg-gouge TM.

The reason the egg gets away with it is that they used to be really good.
For 5 years I told everyone I know "If you want to buy something for computers don't bother looking anywhere else, just go to newegg.com and buy it".

I am certain I wasn't the only one. Many other people I know who were knowledgeable did the same. They will also just log in and buy when they wanted something.

So the egg started taking advantage of it. They are making more money now, but at the price of their supreme reputation that they worked so hard to build. In my eyes their rep is already lost.

Their service WAS also the best in class, but has since deteriorated.

How fast does Amazon stock products like these? Since they have no tax and free shipping, it might be good.

I got a Retail version yesterday from NCIXUS for $190. The shipping, however, almost made it not worth getting. I was afraid Newegg would have it with lower prices today, but I'm glad that I didn't second guess myself!

Any idea when prices might go down to the proper sub-$200 levels? Or will they at all?
