Any idea how much better an E8400 (or an E8200) is versus an E2140 (that can be overclocked to 3.0) ?

I know the E8x00 uses less juice and runs cooler, but performance-wise, might a budget-oriented person like myself be better off picking up an e2140 for about $70 (instead of about coughing up 2 big bills for an E8400)?

Any thoughts?

It's not going to beat the E2xxx for best bang for the buck. Your wont' get 2x performance of 2140 but E8400 should get you up to 4Ghz speed and 6mb L2 cache. That would be about 33% over what E2140 can do in raw power. Then again, 3Ghz is quite a bit of raw power for modern computing, your overall system speed is more dependent on other system components such as GPU and HDD.

I love the egg but sadly everyone I know passed on getting it from them because of the markup. Even getting it from places that take pre-order and waiting for the chips to ship somewhere down the line.

Even Mobo sales are being lost to other places. ClubIT is really stepping it up.

I used to order from newegg because of the cheap/free 2 day fedex shipping and the lower than average prices. Now the prices are still a little below average (but not as much) and they use UPS 3 day (yuck). However, I still order almost exclusively from t3h egg because of their selection and I've never had a problem when ordering from them. If there is another site out there with the prices and selection of newegg, they will get my (considerable, more than I want to know) business.

For example, I just ordered:
GA-X38-DS4 for $199.99
Intel Q6600 for $260
G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB)DDR2 1000 for $114.99

At zipzoomfly, the q6600 is $278, they dont even have the motherboard and similar ram is $130 for 2gb (I got 4gb for $115). That said, ClubIT looks nice (their UI sucks though), they have the mobo I bought for a wohle $1 less than newegg.

EDIT: on second examination, ClubIT is pretty nice... I might have to check them out the next time I place an order.

I'm not complaining about jaredpace posting hot deals. I am just commenting that with this deal is so cold, it shoulda never been posted. So in a sense I'm complaining about jared posting COLD deals. Reading comprehension is your friend peoples. But as it is just my opinion... grain of salt, and all that jazz.
