Lanyap, I don't mean to single you out; but it is convenient to respond to your message since you captured the spirit of the last few messages here.
I presume that in most cases where an "intercept" takes place, the shipper and the receiver are in harmony and they're trying to correct some sort of mistake together. But taking a package away from a receiver who is unwilling to return it does make it seem like a dirty trick.
On the other hand, if your neighbor saw an imposter dressed like a UPS driver who went around stealing packages from people's porches, you might actually have something there.
Only if there's a law against it. Do you know of any?Originally posted by: Lanyap
I can't believe that some of the UPS drivers went back to pick up the packages after delivery. That seems like it would be illegal...
What makes you so sure? UPS is acting on the orders of the sender, who has a lot more legal rights than the receiver (mostly because the sender is the one who paid UPS for the shipping service).Originally posted by: Lanyap
Once the paid for package is successfully delivered it is yours and UPS has no legal right to pick it up...

If any of you actually called the police, I'd be curious what they had to say. I seriously doubt it is considered "theft" for a UPS driver to pick up a package that has been delivered if he has an order from the sender to retrieve it. To make an analogy, if you're receiving an item, they can leave it on your porch without talking to you, and if you are shipping an item, they can pick it up from your porch without talking to you. The assumption made here is that the item is supposed to be returned to the sender, so from their perspective it's like any other pick up. If you're not there to stop them, why should they assume you don't want to return the item? ("Because I want my hot deal!!!")Originally posted by: LanyapI hope the people who this happened to file a complaint with UPS and authorities.
