So far a few posts from Bulgaria and Slovenia but hey, its a start!

edit: The most current post says that they will start shipping today in the U.S. This is posted by a person named golfjam, location: CA. I'm not a member there and don't really feel like registering for another forum. Anyone want to ask him how he knows that?

Logic? E8600s are shipping, therefore so are the other speed bins. The only catch is that you can't choose which one they send to you, unless your favorite store makes a special effort to check each box. (Only a few will do this.)

The Houston Microcenter also has them, I bought one today. They seem to be from two batches, mine was packed 08/06/08.

Man we dont have any microcenters around here(Florida). Anyone know of a website yet where you're guaranteed one?

Are the E0 better than the current batch? What's the microstepping of the current ones? My Q9450 has c1 stepping.

So SLB9J is the sSpec for the new E0 stepping then? Looks sort of like "slob"...should be easy enough to remember.

heres a 4.5G slob:

make sure you buy the small boxed E8400/8500 (notice cut-out cpu window on top) like the one on the left here:
http://img.photobucket.com/alb.../BlueAqua/IMG_1479.jpg
http://i76.photobucket.com/alb...tup/00010408090900.jpg

edit:
Core 2 Duo e8400 (3.0 GHz): SLAPL (C0) - > SLB9J (E0);
Core 2 Duo e8500 (3.16 GHz): SLAPK (C0) - > SLB9K (E0);
Xeon e3110 (3.0 GHz): SLAPM (C0) - > SLB9C (E0).
New processors will require a bios update.

they may have, or just crammed the 7-series sink in the box by reducing the size of the plastic. I don't think anyone will be using the stock HSF anyway.

good chance you'll get an e0 here:
http://microcenter.com/single_...tml?product_id=0281097

"Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 E0 stepping (S-Spec code: SLB9J) has been spotted at my local Micro Center. They are in pretty small boxes compared to the older boxed processors. Of course they are only $149.99.
Store Locations: http://microcenter.com/at_the_stores/index.html
E8400 on the website: http://microcenter.com/single_produc...uct_id=0281097
It might be a good idea to call your local Micro Center, to see if they have any available. The one in Northern Virginia just got the E0's today. Not all stores will have E0's."

What the hell?? Did they shrink the stock heatsink again?

Well they aren't introducing new steppings and reducing power-consumption without good financial reasons.

They are going to do it to increase yields and decrease the required HSF kit to save $2/CPU. Wouldn't you?

Yeah, the Northern Virginia MicroCenter is a few miles from me. Mmm hmm tempting...

It's just a new revision. Nothing "special" if you run it stock, but it's supposed to have higher overclocking potential.

Bah! So it turns out the $149 sale at MicroCenter was part of their Tuesday and Friday morning sale :|. They jacked the price up to $159 Friday afternoon. Good thing I opted not to stop by MicroCenter on the way home from work, due to the nasty storm.

I thought the power consumption was much reduced, even at stock, with the new E0 stepping.

(much as the G0 stepping of Q6600 did over the B3 Q6600)

Is this not true?

c0 vs. e0:
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articl.../core2duo-e8600_2.html

We have every right for these expectations, and Intel describes the innovations introduced in the new E0 processor stepping as follows:

Besides the evident changes in SSpec and CPUID, they also claim that new processors use Halide free packaging and feature innovations reducing system power consumption during low activity. They support PSI signal that the CPU sends out in Deeper Sleep mode. This way the mainboard will be able to lower the power losses in the processor voltage regulator circuitry in idle mode. For example, some advanced mainboards supporting PSI will be able to switch the processor voltage regulator into single-phase mode in this case. For almost the same reason they are going to introduce ACNT2 support ? a new software mechanism for determining the processor?s energy status.

New processor stepping will also bring in the long-awaited support modification for the PECI interface that provides access to DTS ? digital thermal sensors built into the processor core. I dare hope that these modifications will help free new Wolfdale processor from the widely-spread problem with locked sensor readings.

Here I would like to add that dual-core processors with E0 stepping support new XSAVE and XRSTOR instructions intended to save and restore parameters of the FPU/SSE unit. These new instructions should be primarily beneficial to developers of virtual machine monitor software.

Of course, the exterior looks of the new processors reflects the internal differences of the new E0 stepping. Although the difference is truly minor, you can easily notice it: the components on the bottom of the CPU have been slightly rearranged:

It all sounds good to me. When are you going to get one? I'm willing to bet they'll do more than 10x200.
