Yes . I oughta be ashamed, going against my own principles. Oh well, I'll probably rationalize it somehow. $10 isn't a whole lot to pay for a guaranteed E0 I guess. The alternative would have been the E8600 for $100 more.

that is what i did to get a guaranteed e0

also, no idea on the OC yet .. works great at 3.33Ghz with PC8500@PC8500 speeds

... not O/C'd yet ...

I'm about to order from them but I want to maximize my chances of getting an E0.

OK, i did a quick e8600 OC on my old gigabyte p35 mb - and i am not going to wast time tuning it up as i have benches to finish with it at stock; i will do the serious OC on my ASUS rampage x48 [after i flash it's own BIOS from the 'deluxe'].

But it booted into windows at 4.5Ghz [10x450] and ran programs with it using the next step up in voltage over stock. i set the divider relatively low so my OCZ PC8500 was still at 1066Mhz and it appeared OK. i am not sure if it was 100% stable and will see what i get this weekend when i seriously O/C it.
--i am guessing my 2x2GB of RAM is not going to OC very well as i did not get the d9 chips.=P

What program currently measures core temps best? TAT seems too old to work with my CPU.

i am using core temp right now and it gives T-junction as 220F or 105C - is this considered accurate? And how far do i want reasonably to stay below it for e8600's max OC with air cooling?[thermalright/scythe120]

At stock 3.33Ghz, it is running 44C [in an 80F room]. i didn't want to run for long at 4.5Ghz without monitoring my temps. i will give it a real try O/C'ing this weekend when i change out my MB to x48 to run HD4870 Crossfire-X3. i was hoping for at least 4.33Ghz; a decent +1Ghz over my old C2D. Maybe more. Heck, e8600 at stock 3.33Ghz is a solid step up over my e4300@3.33Ghz

i notice that my Thermalright is not quite as solidly locked down on my CPU as the other one .. or i am imagining; it is down as far as it will go

sounds like you have an outdated version of coretemp because TJMax is now 100C. Stay below Tjunction 75C, IMO. Plan to lap HSF or IHS?

thanks .. and it depends on if i need to lap; i prefer not to, but i actually did a little lapping on my Thermalright for my e4300's OC.

they now come in big box & little box for an E0. just look for the S-spec codes. (and possibly the big bold E8400 on the new label.)

I just got an E0 Stepping yesterday at microcenter in NJ.

Saw the small box on the shelf, got the last one they had, did not check the bigger boxes to see if any of them were E0s though.
