Picked ones up in store today. Price on the shelf said $190, same as the egg, but rang up for $169.99 (+ tax) Not sure if it was a mistake, or a sale. Check it out if you live close to one.

now *$159.99*

Haha, and it's RETAIL! A better deal than the OEM one that comes with the ECS mobo at Fry's, IMO. Worth the extra $10.

How is that a better deal than the combo at Fry's? You get a free motherboard in the other deal, and most people don't even use the factory HSF.

FRY's has e7200 plus ECS mobo at the same $119. Although I don't know if CPU is retail or not. I think that would be a slightly better deal since I void the warranty by lapping CPUs anyway and it's always nice having an extra motherboard to test CPUs/give away to relatives/use in a cheap build.

OMG, soooo tempting. Comes to 180 after s/h and tax for me. I can finally get my Vista system running again.

And that's useless if you overclock, which violates the warranty anyways.

Stop posting FUD. Nobody can prove you OC your CPU.

Hey, if your ethics differ from mine, go ahead. I wouldn't feel right doing an RMA with Intel if I caused the damage by OCing.

Pretty rare occurance to damage a CPU by overclocking. Usually either the chip OC's or it doesn't. If it doesn't, move it back down and you are good to go.

I believe you can only damage a chip by Over-Volting not Over-Clocking.

This is the hot deal forum not the CPU discussion if you want to discuss your problems RMA'ing a chip or buying one with a lame ass crap mother board from frys take it else where.... Other wise enjoy your new CPU.

true for maybe you, but some idiot who doesnt know what hes doing can mess it up. Maybe apply to much voltage, no thermal grease, no fan?

Though chips/mobo will turn off if they get to hot, i would have to agree that a mobo and cpu is a better deal though. But no frys around these parts so this is pretty hot

how is that 7200

how is that 7200

i have a 7200. am currently running it at 1.217 volts, and have it currently overclocking at 390 * 9. Prime95 (x2) stable for 24+ hours, cores are never above 44C (using the big honking 2 x120mm hs that's been advertised a bajillion times on here (bought 2 for 2 different systems), although the name escapes me ATM [gemini??].

and that's on an abit IP-35E, which for some reason has just decided that it no longer has a gbE port on it (doesn't even show up in the post IRQ list).

i think the 7200 is capable of more, but i don't think i'd see a practical difference between 3.5 and 3.8.

my 7200 is a M0, stepping 6 fwiw.

can you get the same equivalent performance increase out of a 8400? (approx 50% o/c?) also, would it behoove me to upgrade to an 8400 from a 7200 to get the 6mb cache versus the 3mb cache? any noticeable difference?

i have a second system with a 2160 in it that's running at 3.2 (also on air). i was thinking about pulling the trigger on the 8400 for that system, since that'd be a bump from a 1mb (insert sad face here) cache to 6mb. i'm sure that would show a performance increase.

Old enough to discern right from wrong, apparently.

I'm thinking of replacing an E2140 running @2.40 with either this 8400 or the Q6600 for $180. Which do you guys think is the better upgrade with my MSI P35 Neo2?

If you willing to cook them at 1.4+ volts you might.
The more cache the harder the oc.
