e8400 unable to overclock

hey i have a e8400 chip and a 600 watt psu i dont have any sli so power is sufficient i guess i dont know the amps on rail for my psu i have a pci x 16 1.0 slot and my gpu 8800 gt alpha dog is a pci 2.0 card
the problem is iam unable to oc my proccessor that is iam try in to change it from 3.0 to 3.6 ghz its shows me th speed (3.6 ) after post but it reboot and comes back to 3.0 ghz i have tried all ram voltage changes and general voltage changes kindly help me

should i change my mobo ??
please help soon

One of the reasons the o/c settings won't stick is that the o/c isn't stable. Try upping vcore, and maybe vfsb/vnb & vdimm by a notch.

Try going from 3.0 to 3.1 first... From whatever your voltage settings are, stick with that, If it doesn't boot, up the voltage a notch and continue the process. There is more to it like this tibit, Read the sticky at the top of this forum as it IS a GREAT guide. Also make sure your ram is set to 1:1 in bios. Jumping from 3.0 to 3.6 is more of a task than you think. Take small steps lil wookie

Welcome to anandtech. You're obviously making the rookie mistake of not lowering your RAM speed. We used to average three or four threads exactly like this one every single day. Now we only get two or three a week.

thanks a lot brothers but can i know the maximum vcore i can goto i mean i have only touched 1.36 volts so far
and previously i used to have a 8600gt card
at that time i was able to goto 3.8 ghz in just 1 shot without any increment in vcore or any voltage settings
hey my board has something called auto voltage settings (i assume most of the boards do )
so will that be of any help to me

i google and iam came to know that 1.5v is the max safe vcore so i think i will go for 1.4v

hey i have increased my vcore to 1.4 volts reduced the multiplier to 6(from 9)
and i have only increased the fsb from 333 to 340 still the oc is unstable

kindly HELP ME PLZ!!!!

is it something wrong wid the board i mean iam using a g33 based board

Under your BIOS, do you have Spread Spectrum set to disabled? If not, set it to disabled, I had this problem when I overclocked my E7200.
