It looks like I ordered my chip at their OEM price and they ran out of OEM chips and just sent me a retail box. Lucky me. The Xeon 3110 is probably the worst kept secret on the net right now if you read the right sites but many people, both consumer and retailer, still haven't picked up on it yet.

I had just assumed the xeon would be more and didn't look for the last few weeks. But yeah, I saw it in a forum with someone else getting it for $209 so I bought on impulse Couldn't help myself...ROFL.

I'm hoping it's better then the normal chips as xeons/opterons go through much more testing before being put out the door. That doesn't mean their going to overclock better I guess. Wishful thinking?...LOL. I think I'm just excited about the thought of hitting 4ghz+. I have a koolance so I should be able to hit something good.

Then again I could get a crapper from the outer edges of the wafer...

I just hope they are NOT like my X3210 POS. It won't OC anywhere close to my other quads, AND runs hotter on less vcore....

Someone who knows definitively please correct me if I'm wrong...but I'm pretty sure that the outer edge of the wafer thing doesn't matter with today's manufacturing processes.

According to the current 3dmark record holder you should see procs that are from the middle and he even says you can tell where they are from via the label on the cpu. His name evades me right now. But he says your last 3 digits in the little black label should be 001-015. Anything outside of that in his experience sucked. Of course there will always be exceptional chips, but supposedly the middle has better odds.

But I guess we'd have to ask Intel/AMD to be sure. More than happy to accept either way I guess, but I've never heard it changed. If you've got any link to such info I'd be interested. IN one of the ocforums threads people are tracking these numbers to see if the 3110 is any better when it's in the first 15. I don't have the link handy but its the "unofficial e3110" thread. Everyone is tallying the numbers and posting them in there. I think a guy named Teron or something like that started the thread.

ok...Here's the thread I think:
http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=549725

Oops...it's the "SEMI OFFICIAL" LOL...Whatever... I was up all night trying to find a place to buy this chip...

Price now $239.99, but a few still in stock. Right now (especially with all the vendors taking orders for "future delivery", and the others gouging on the price) that seems to be as good as it gets.

It looks like eWIZ has figured it out. Their E8200 is $217.50. Yesterday I bought my E3110 Xeon (an E8400) for $209 so quite a change on their part for a cheaper chip! Of course they ran out hours later on the Xeon. Mine shipped already too.

For anyone looking for a cheap fast cool chip the e8200 isn't so bad. It will hit 3.2ghz easy on a 1600FSB without messing about with much else (totally quiet at that speed too). Then crank it when needed down the road. A cheap P35-DS3L from Gigabyte will ensure the board won't limit you later. You should be able to hit 3.6 with these pretty easy (1900fsb). Gigabytes can hit 2000 easy from what I've seen.

Just a thought for people who can't wait for E8400/E3110 to come back in stock.

Have you noticed that for all the places that are selling the E8400 and out of stock do not have any date on when they will get more in? What is with that?

Yes, most are out.

Newegg just updated pricing again. Now they are up to $260! Lets see, that's 4 price hikes in 1 week and they haven't had ANY in that whole time. Obviously their system bidding up parts because of us viewing them works...LOL

They started at $209 (3 weeks ago) then 229, about 8 days ago, and added $10 every two days since.

Ugh... as delicious as these processors are, I'm just going to resist and wait for Nehalem or something. I really have no complaints about by 4400+'s performance, and my 6800GT is holding up fine playing my oldie-but-goodie drug of choice WoW.

And now they announced the E8300.....and with possible plans for a E8600. They should just mass-produce the E8200, E8400, E8500 before they move on to something else. (Even though they are all just different multipliers)

Under your resoning why not just the E8200 E8400 E8600 E8800 & not even bother with the odd numbers ,, would make factory inventory, customer ordering , & etc much easier & make more sense !!!
I'd really like an E8800, woweee!!!!!!

Hmmm...for some reason I am not understanding your reply. I was making the point that they should crank out more of the same chips that are already in production, in order to end the current shortage and lower prices. I'm not sure your response had anything to do with what I was trying to say. Please enlighten me.

They are restricting them while places like newegg etc dump old stock. Check the price of the E6750/E6850 and you'll see why they are restricting them. All these pc shops probably freaked when sales of any closely related chip just TANKED. We're all trying to get E8400/E3110 xeons...ROFL. EVerything else now sucks (until E7xxx) chips or now E8200 I guess. Anyway we don't want 65nm...LOL. So when they all call up Intel cussing them out they say oops, sorry we'll stop selling them to you for a while. Let us know when your old of that old junk.

Does that suck or what?

Nothing on you OC it was mostly for intel spooks who read these pages !!
There's really no need for intel to weasel every 1/2 ghz, they could simplify pricing, stocking & ordering that way !! Seems their wafer quality could justify that !!
Does that seem like a good idea, or is it just me !!?????
I just used your post as sounding board,, not directed @ you !!

Peace to you OC. / Ol'Pal Gary

I'm not buying any 65nm CPU at 2007 prices. Forget it, Newegg! The only way I'll buy an E6750 is if it drops down to $150 and I get a free t-shirt with it. And the E4xxx and E6550 should be discontinued. Oh, I'd take a Q6600 for $175 + a free copy of CoD4 to test it on.

I suspect prices will go down on popular overclocking Conroes as soon as the next batch of Penryns arrives because that's what overclockers will be after. It is still supposedly going to be on 3/31. Some stores may get a few in earlier.
