BTW, how did your sticks add up to 5GB? If you have an extra 1GB in there along with 2x2GB, you might consider taking the 1GB out. I don't see any way for 5GB to work in dual-channel mode (oh, maybe 2x2GB plus 2x512MB), and the mix could compromise your overclock.

The thing that puzzles me is the fact that the PC passed Prime95 Blend(Ram+CPU) @ 3.8GHz @ 1.33V, but it crashes BC2 @ 3.8GHZ/1.35V...

I've had no problems with BC2 @ 3.6GHz with 1.25V...

Kinda scared to push the voltage any higher...how can 200MHz throw the CPU off so badly with a .1V increase?

...because you aren't upping the other voltages as you probably need to.

Try upping the NB volatge a notch and try your game then. Quite often when you run Prime it does Not stress the NB as much as when in a game, also it seems you are on the brink with the OC, even tho it passes Prime it could falter in intense stress which is why I always stress test 1 fsb Over what I will run 24/7.

This is what i got right now, i'm OCing with the BIOS, brought the FBS up to 1550, that set my core speed to 3.681GHz @ 1.28V.

I've been OCing with software, maybe that's been the issue...

I've been scared to push it past 3.8GHz with the BIOS fearing the MOBO won't POST.

My camera's battery died, so i'll be back in a minute with BIOS pics.

Memory shows up as dual on CPU-Z

Weird...

Maybe that Corsair and Crucial have something in common...

Yeah - I'm not sure that's actually running dual channel, and pairing a 1GB with a 2GB stick is asking for trouble. Consider just leaving in 2x1GB and trying your overclock.

On second thought, two of those 1GB sticks don't look like they're rated for DDR2-800 (6400) speed. Your running your DDR2-667 (5300) overclocked. Try one stick of DDR2-800 and pull all the others out.

What's the relation/ratio of FBS to Bus speed?

"FSB" is your "front side bus." So 400 FSB is 400 bus speed. Your memory is double data rate, running at a 1:1, which means its running at 800 when you're at 3.8GHz (9.5x400). But two of your ram sticks are not rated for 800, they're rated for 667, which would match the stock 333 bus speed on your e8500.

Seriously, if you want to check for stability, pull out all those 1GB sticks and leave a single 2GB DDR2-800 stick in. You are running an unstable combo.

How many sticks of ram are you using again? I'm not soo sure a dual core puts that much stress on the NB to be seriously concerned... but then again.... i'm still stuck on the theory that your RAM is failing... are the sticks a high volt pair like 2.1v?

The problem is not the stress on the NB, it's the pairing of 1GB and 2GB sticks and the pairing of DDR2-667 and DDR2-800 sticks.

He has the following setup:
Slot1: 2048MB (6400)
Slot2: 1024MB (5300)
Slot3: 1024MB (5300)
Slot4: 1024MB (6400)

He has a 2GB DDR2-800 stick paired with a 1GB DDR2-667 stick, and he has a 1GB DDR2-667 stick paired with a 1GB DDR2-800 stick. And he's running a 400 FSB. Asking for failed overclock in my book.

O yeah, that could be a problem, bah! Trouble with that is DDR2 is still expensive

If you dont want to take out all the ram you could try dropping the memory ratio down a notch and adding some voltage. You should be ok to hit 1.9v - 2.0v on the ram with no problems. Most ddr2 stock voltage is 1.8v and trying to hit 900+ with no voltage bump is gonna be hard on most sticks.

So besides running around with 2GB of RAM on a gaming rig, what would you suggest that doesn't involve dropping $60 on a new set of RAM? Cause i'm broke.

Set ddr2 voltage to 1.95v and if that doesnt work, try lowering the memory ratio.

I'm not telling you to buy new ram, I'm saying you should test your overclock with just the one stick of 2GB. You can even run BC2 with 2GB of ram, I believe, at least to test it.

If it is your ram, then my suggestion would be to up the ram voltage, as others have suggested. You should be safe to 2.1v. The other option would be lowering memory speed, but I don't know if all motherboards can lower the ram divider below 1:1. When you're running at 400 FSB, you may be stuck pushing that DDR-667 ram at way above rated speed.

And I'm pretty convinced that a 2GB stick and a 1GB stick will not run together in dual-channel mode, but that's probably the least of your problems.

I'm going to post a tutorial i made a while ago using a Q9550 and a UD3R board... the methods will also apply to your e8500... let me take a peak at it first before i post it though. While i do-so, try Memtest HCI, that'll help narrow things down some-more.

I would not go past 2.0v on those 667mhz sticks as Ive killed a stick going to 2.1v.
