Both 2K Games and Electronic Arts plan to have their game development studios across the globe use the physics application programming interface.

Wow! The more impressive part of that link is the comparative video of GPU PhysX ON vs. OFF. Its as if there was a slider for "Interactive Eye-Candy" with it all the way down for OFF and maxed out for ON.

I'd imagine it means actual hardware PhysX, as there's a few titles from both publishers that already use software PhysX currently.

I saw it after I read the TR article.

But I updated the original post to include it.

I read a lot of hardware sites.

Played it on the Xbox, didn't like it that much. PC version might be better, some of the effects look cool.

It's too bad that running PhysX is not equally viable when handled by CPU (at least something like a Core2 Quad or Corei7). I don't think that game developers are going to invest a ton of time in implementing PhysX in a meaningful way if they can only reach a portion of the market - granted nVidia represents a large portion of the market.

True, plus you have the people who buy systems from Dell or HP and may just have whatever integrated gpu comes on the mobo. Or laptop users who probably cannot take advantage of physx in the way it's been designed.

Fortunately for us, several developers are more interested in bringing PhysX enabled games to market next year than you guys would like people to believe.

However, does it change the gameplay in some significant way so as to render all other forms of gameplay obsolete? I'm thinking no lol.

That's really what I want to see. A totally redefined experience. I'm all for waving flags and falling objects, but there comes a time when I need more than another shooter that now has cloaks that wave in the wind and tapestries that can be manipulated by punching or shooting them

It doesn't matter to me if EA is using Physix. I wont touch their crappy bug ridden games anyway.
