Installed the demo last night! I thoroughly enjoyed the way it looked and played! It ran FLAWLESS and BEAUTIFULLY at max details with 8xAA/16AF. Gorgeous! I really like the feel of it. Luckily I have a wired 360 controller, otherwise it'd be pretty uncomfortable playing with a keyboard. I dont think it'd be as fun with a keyboard, due to the necessity of the touchiness of the gas pedal. With a keyboard, it's either on or off the gas, with the 360 controller you can feather the throttle. Very helpful for the drifting courses. I think I may buy this when it's released!

I use the right analog on my Logitech pad for throttle, Miklebud. It's not as intuitive as the trigger, but it works.

I played the demo and found it as lame as Colin McRae games. They all have the same type of feel (with the steering particularly) and just simply don't have anything new added onto them besides the overcooked graphics. And I don't even want to mention how bad the 360 controller support was. Absolute fail. 5/10 max score judging by the demo.

Yeah, any gamepad would be leaps and bounds above a keyboard for this game.

Bad 360 support? Are you kidding? It ran like a XBOX360 game on my PC. Even had "A,B,X,Y" in the options menu. I had never installed the 360 controller til 30 seconds before I fired up GRID. Talk about phenomenal support.

And this is a bad thing?? Why mess with a tried and true formula that works well? If it was different people would be bitching because its something new.. hahaha. As for myself, I dont think it feels to much like the last offering - Dirt. I think the feeling is very realistic and true to real life,... and I have raced in real life so I can compare. Then again, maybe its just my MOMO wheel over whatever your using.

Only bitchin I have about using the 360 controller on my pc is if you have a game that is out for the 360, DiRT, Bioshock, the like, then why bother getting it for the pc. There really isnt much a difference graphics wise between the game played on the 360 vs on the PC. In some cases, like DiRT, it plays better on the 360 then it does my pc. Games for windows is kinda sad because the same games work almost 100% on the 360, and there really isnt much of a diff between the looks of the 2, you may as well save the money, dont buy the $200 cpu, the $200 mobo, $80 ram, the $400 graphics card, and buy a 360 if you just plan on playing game for window games on your pc. I know since I now own a 360, I wont be doing much more to my now pc. There really isnt much games only playable on the pc thats out there thats a must have, so I may as well go to the dark side and stay there since the graphics all look the same. Back in the day thats why you bought, or built a pc because games on the consoles looked worse, and had more options, now it is reversed, or at a stalemate. Games are not only looking the same with the 2 big consoles, sony and MS, but games look as good, or better, with less hassles on the consoles, so why really bother with pc anymore. It would seem in the future people are going to just be gaming on a console because it WILL look and play better then what you can get from you pc, and thats going to be a very sad day for PC lovers. I already see it happening, and its not all a bad thing. But I can now forward all my pc upgrade money towards a PS3 later, a Wii, or more games for all my console systems and use my pc for home theater and web only from now on.

Another bitch I have is like I have Bioshock for the PC but not the 360 and the ONLY controller I can use with Bioshock is the 360 controller. You cannot use any other controller with it, either you have the 360 or your stuck using the keyboard/mouse only. I feel this is very unfair, if it can use the controller, the 360 one, then it shouldnt really matter what other controller I wish to use with it on my PC, just give me the option to set up my button configuration to go with what ever controller I want to use. I dont know if this is true for any other "games for windows" games, I dont have any more for the pc, but I can only assume that MS if forcing people that if they buy the games out for the 360 to play on their PC they can only use the 360 controller and thats it. Thats not fair for those with other controllers and want the option to use what ever, not be forced into only one and that is it if you wish to play using a controller.

With dirt thankfully you can use the 360, or any other controller you wish to use setting it up in the customs tab, and same for GRiD as well, thankfully.

My last bitch with the 360 controller is if they are going to give if support, then maker it FULL support. I have a ton of games that the force feedback will not work using the 360 controller with it, yet again forcing me to have to play musical controllers so I can get the rumble to work. Why force me to use the 360 with some games on my pc, but dont have it fully supported so that it will work with more then just the "games for windows".

I like the 360 controller, but damnit, make it work for all games, and if not, dont force people into having to buy it if they want to use it with a "games for windows" game, but still have to use another controller for another game because theirs doesnt work 100% with older games. Its got to be all or nothing, or give people the option to use a different controller in the games that will only support the use of a 360 controller.

I hope I made sense. Not feeling all too good right now but had to try to make my point. I do know though when GRiD comes out, I wont be getting it for the pC but rather the 360. I have the demo for both, and I just dont see a diff at all.

OK well with what I said above I decided to bring my 360 and hook it to my monitor via a VGA cable, and its a sad sad day. The game looks better on the 360. Most noticeable difference on the 360 vs the pc:
The reflection on the pc version is static, with no light shadows. The 360 version shows a moving reflection on the car, and shows light reflections, along with shadowing when going between buildings off the car, or near the track walls, and looks more "real" on the 360 then on the pc.

The difference didnt stand right out till I played the game and had the replay going on both switching between both formats.

UNLESS others running vista can chime in and say if running on vista, and under direct x 10, will allow for better lighting, moving reflections, and shadows on the pc just like it is on the 360. But on a XP version, 4000+ cpu, X1800XT graphics, running with all maxed out at 1600x1200, the difference is huge between my pc running the game and how it looks on the 360.

Another game that has a difference running it on the pc vs the 360 is Tomb Rader Legends. The 360 game is missing shadows in the begining on the water, and the zoom mode with binoculars shows things coming into view going in focus, where the stuff not centered is out of focus. Some other reflection and lighting off her body looks better on the 360 vs the pc as well.

Such a shame that 2 games I know of so far look better on a console then on the pc, the world will soon be coming to an end.

Feel free to dl the demo of both and see for yourself.

I get a securom error most of the time when starting the demo. I don't have any virtual drives and I own many other games that use securom..strange. The few times the demo did work I liked what saw for the most part. The game uses that ugly piss filter that codemasters seems to love but the game does have strong visuals and it runs great as well. Nice looking damage modeling and I like the San Francisco track. I don't care for the drift gameplay but thats mostly because I suck at it. I'm gonna play around with the assists to find a custom setup but I think this will be a fine arcade racer.

^^

Funboy42, when I use the "car hood" view the reflections are not static at all and reflects the surroundings nicely. I'll take a look again regarding the shadows but I see no visual difference at all and I put the demo on "ultra quality". mmm...

I mean by static, it rotates when you make turns, but its the same buildings in the cars hood, the dont "travel" down the hood from passing building as it does in the 360 version, and mine is set to max as well.

I'm using third party 360 drivers because all ohter games would make mine rumble 100% all the time on the default drivers or not work at all.

I don't believe this game caters towards the simulation crowd at all and neither does Colin McRae nor NFS Pro Street. As much as you would like to think the physics have improved, CMR and Race Driver Grid are still on the same old central pivot system since CMR3. It doesn't feel natural and just plainly fails.

I'll stick to Forza and Gran Turismo, thanks.
