At least their games work even if extra steam features don't. EA releases games that don't work then releases expansions and patches on top of them that only add more problems.

Exactly, Steam works fine, EA games need a sorcerer to get them running.

For you it does. For me and many others it sucks.

The fact that Steam works flawlessly for hundreds of thousands of people across the world means that Steam IS STABLE and WORKS FINE. If Steam was the problem, then EVERYBODY would be experiencing the same problems and NOBODY would be working flawlessly.

The problem lies with way too many people who don't know what the hell they're doing with computers and blame their own ignorance on programs like Steam that are malfunctioning because of the REAL problem - unstable and otherwise fscked up computers.

Stability is an occasional problem but it's not a major one. I think it's absolutely stupid that you have to pay retail price for the game (unless you buy a pirated version off of eBay) and that you can't play LAN games using the same CD key.

Remember that time when EA created a patch and it fixed all the problems that the community was complaining about? No?

That's because it has never happened. Whenever EA creates a patch, all you can do is ask yourself how they're going to fvck you over this time. I've quit BF2 because of that craptacular server browser; I'm waiting for Battlefield 2142, because I figure that's the one they're going to fix the browser for, seeing as you'll have to pay another $50 for it.

I also feel very bad for anybody who bought that expansion. You got screwed.

Agreed. You can read various rants of mine about how sh!tty steam is. It was written by a collection of incompetent programmers whose previous project was pong :|

I love the BF series and imho BF2 was the best concept but poorest implementation. I know most people didn't like BF:V but with the BF2 patches and the BF:V humvee music I think BF:V was still better. That said I can't wait till they release 1.31 so we can get back to complaining about guns instead.

I gave up on Battlefield 2 after the first expansion. As much as I enjoyed the game, the glaring issues and painful bugs were killing the experience for me. They continue to release expansion after expansion, yet still are blind to obvious issues with the game. My roommate cannot even load the Special Forces expansion on his brand new dual core 4800. If I load it, I crash to desktop. Then after a 10 second pause, BF2 loads itself up again, disables the mouse (thanks!) and then randomly picks a map for me to join in on... and we all know how long it takes to load maps, lol

I definitely won't be buying Battlefield 2142 or whatever it is. I hope the new Rainbow 6 is worth it.

For "most people"steam technically "works"as in you can connect to games. But for almost everyone steam has created needless lag and high pings

You all are reminding me of more reasons why I don't play the game. The browser was always slow and clunky. I could never really sort servers properly by ping, the server list could never scroll fast, and if the whole game didn't lock up and crash when I clicked on a server, it would take 3 minutes to load...on an Opteron 170 with 2GB of RAM!

lol, thats why EA is still in business and still fvcking people over. you guys get screwed up the ass like a prison inmate and then go out and buy their next game. you're just asking to be ass raped by a man named Bubba al over again. Why should they fix anything when stupid idiots like you keep buying all the sh!t they release?

That's news to me and I've been playing CS: Source since its release - and you know CS players are usually the biggest of bunch whiners on the internet. If there are lag problems, everybody and their brother is bitching about it.

I agree they have a lot of bad practices....but I'm still a wake island junkie. That map is pretty awesome as long as you don't have too many losers spawn killing like the J10s.

As for the expansion packs, I bought the special forces. I actually like it. I get the feeling that I'm fighting some war in eastern europe....it's kind of cool. A few of the building designs are copied from other maps, but it's acceptable. I especially like the grappling hook so you can climb extremely high without anyone noticing (on the back side of buildings).

I'm just curious...have you tried it recently? I wasn't into HL when steam was first released, but a lot of people have said it was terrible then but has really improved.

Steams automatic updates occasionally throw a bit of a monkey wrench into the works, but honestly it hasn't really given me any trouble. I think the favorites weren't working for me for awhile and thats the biggest issue I've had.

I haven't really used it since Half Life 2. I think that was over a year ago. I'm sure it's improved a lot since then (it'd have to since they couldn't make it any worse) but I've just lost any desire to play any game that uses steam. I don't have a standard network setup but it isn't unique by far and it refused to work with my gaming machine

modem -> wireless router -> access point (acting as a wireless bridge) -> switch -> gaming machine

Took me almost a week before I finally got it working and I had to teach those fools on how to support it. Then there were the various problems about any patches and whatnot (this is back then of course).

I guess what really really pissed me off is that I bought a single player game from a retail B&M store and I was unable to play it because of steam.

I'm running the 1.3 patch on a 3000+ with 2GB of RAM and I have no problems here. Works great.

I'm also running Steam with no problems. I play a ton of DODS.
