i think that's the forums. they can be modified to be FAST, and i do mean FAST. but yeah they have tranny problems, something called "crankwalk", and lots of other problems associated with them. me, i'd stay away just because of the reliability. what good is a fast car if it's broken all the time? >>
That is incorrect. Crankwalk only occurs in 2nd gen DSM's (95-99). The 1st gen, which is the one we're talking about here, does not have that problem. Like everyone has said, those cars have transmission problems. However, if you don't go around racing everyone and dumping your clutch at insane RPM's and the previous owner didn't use it as a weekend racer, i think your transmission will be fine. Just make sure to check the compression of the engine and the turbo. If the seal on the turbo goes, it's at least $1k to fix. On a brighter note, the engine is capable of amazing powers. People have ran 11's on the stock turbo. the 1st gen turbo is larger than the 2nd gen turbo, thus you'll have more potential for power if modding is your thing. If you're into power and speed, this car will be awesome. otherwise, i'd get something that's more reliable.
