As far as earworm proper goes, it hasn't really happened often to me. I listen to songs and music I like repetitively, but insofar as humming it out loud or in my head....they would be very short phrases.

So, that would be the bass line of the final movement of the Eroica symphony and a transitional figuation in Mozart's Piano Concerto 17.

Five seconds or so

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Don't even need a video to get that one stuck in your head.

So I read on here years ago that you couldn't get a really short song stuck in your great, but you could use it to clear an ear worm. The poster recommended the Intel jingle. Since then I've sung the Intel jingle to myself a few times any time something gets stuck and it actually works.

Both my parents went very nearly totally deaf. I have had tinnitus since the 1980's, too many loud rock shows, generally in small clubs but they turned up the amps. I had no idea that the ringing in my ears after the shows, that would go away in a day or two would one day never go away. If I'd known that I would have taken steps. Now I protect the hearing I have left jealously. I bought some earplugs designed for loud music, at least two sets. But the pandemic hit before I could use any! Anyway, for around two decades I've had a couple of hearing protection sets that fit over your head that I picked up cheap at Harbor Freight. They do a good job of attenuating loud noise. I use them in and out of the house a fair amount. I have various power tools. Even my blender can make quite a racket. If I feel "pain" from whatever noise, I slap those on my head. AFAIK, my hearing hasn't deteriorated over the last 20 years, but I could be wrong. I've had a few hearing tests. BTW, the Biden administration is trying to include hearing in Medicare, I heard the other day.

AFA musical ear worms, well, just about any riff can do that.

i've always been really careful about not listening to loud noises, wearing earplugs, avoiding concerts, etc.

but i think i might've caused tinnitus by simply blowing my nose a few weeks ago

i didn't realize that i was so stuffed up, so i blew my nose too hard

BOOM a huge pop happened in my ear, and it was ringing

one stupid little thing and now i'm screwed for life
