John Alroy, an evolutionary biologist at the University of California at Santa Barbara, used a complicated computer model to simulate what may have happened when humans first entered North America some 13,400 years ago over an Ice Age land bridge from Asia. Regardless of the variables he plugged in, the presence of human hunters triggered mass extinctions.

We're not &quot;harming&quot; anything. Everything we do is natural. To do something unnatural, we'd have to be aliens. Our environment adapts to us, just as we adapt to it.

Predators at the top of the food chain have a long history of causing the extinction of other species. It's called &quot;natural selection.&quot;

At any rate, this finding is more than questionable, as there are more scientists than not who disagree that ancient humans caused any significant extinctions.

You don't think that what you do will affect the people AFTER you? (But then, you don't care about that, do you?) So you'll eat all the food available and leave your children to starve.
You'll plunder the earth for all its resources, and leave your lineage with nothing but a big mess to clean up. Worse, you doom them to a shorter, more miserable life because YOU decided to take the easy way. It's selfish like nothing else is.

We are definately the earth's cancer - nothing else causes as much wanton destruction. Being at the top of the food chain does NOT give us the right to destroy everything in sight!! Rather, it makes us RESPONSIBLE for its CARE! We have to make sure our industries don't kill all fish and waterfowl, we have to make sure our air is clean for all life to breathe, we have to have clean water for all life to drink. If we go and destroy an entire species of animal just because they are annoying or taste good - we throw off the entire ecological system, resulting in chaos until something rises to fill the void. Then we have new problems.

But I suppose, if there's no God, there's no reason to care. You just wink out, and this is the only life we have, so let's spend it in ridiculous persuit of material gain and shallow happiness, right? Unbelievable and selfish. Absolutely disgusting. :|

miken, the earth takes way more than one life time to heal itself, so if you destroy the earth in your life time, your kids will starve, their kids will starve. Maybe 10 generations later your kids will not starve.

Ah wait, I know why most people in this thread talk like this: they're Americans, citizens of the country with 6% of the worldpopulation, which uses 25% of all power produced in the world and cause the most pollution of all countries. No wonder people get careless about their environment if you grow up in such a world of senseless waste of energy and a hatred against everything which is not 'conquered' and tamed by Humans (read: Americans).

It all makes perfect sense all of a sudden.

About 4 billion people I think in this world are starving, only 1 billion is not starving and the rest is somewhere between, we all ready dont have enough food.

Sadly, you're seriously mistaken. Not even 10% of the world population lives in (relative) wealth. If you would divide all wealth, food etc. over the whole world population, everybody would be poor and starving from hunger and thirst.

There just isn't enough for everybody.

Show me some facts on this. I know alot of people are starving because of corrupt governments, not lack of food.

BS. We have more than enough food. The US has the ability to produce many times the amount of food it does now. In fact, our government pays our famers to NOT produce, to keep the price of food high enough to keep farming profitable. People in the world are starving for many reasons: bad governments, ignorance, poverty, localized droughts, etc., however, the earth's ability to feed them is NOT one of the problems.

Why shouldn't we produce and use it? Pollution? Nah, modern plants are restricted enough to not be a problem.
