new build, ECS K7-nf2-U400/2600+ stock, grabbed a copper HS/fan combo off the shelf (sure 'looked' good!).

Haven't been able to hear right for two days now.....sucker moves ~40.1cfm, ~6800rpm, at *43*dbs. Caught it closing the door to the room twice.

I see (now) it pays to pay check the specs (first). Any recs for a decent replacement so I don't have to do it 3 times? (case is otherwise quiet, dual-fan Raidmax 420w PSU, 80mm side exh, R9800Pro). thanx.

Do you want to replace just the fan or the heat sink too? If just the fan what size is it?

Thanks. It's a 60x60x25 fan, 2BB, 12vdc, came with the ATT KCP-30. CPU temps have been nice and cool.
Heat sink is 67x60x27. HS cut-out diameter nearly matches fan diameter.

Replace the fan and/or if it has 1 guard remove it cause they increase sound level

I had to replace the Delta screamer fan when I got one of those, it was so obscenely loud. Now I stick with the Coolermasters.

appreciate the assist, hadn't thought to pull the fan and keep the HS. The combo is efficient but way too loud. Idle is at 34C, loading around 49. Will leave the copper HS on, pull the fan and look this weekend for a replacement (1/2 cfm/db), then compare temps. thx, TB2

Converters lose a lot of airflow. I would just buy a new heatsink that supports either an 80mm or 92mm fan. And I would replace the PSU with a quieter model. In addition I would buy an Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer to quiet down the 9800Pro.

Able to sit in the same room with the new rig now without earplugs....ended up going with a TT silent boost. The extra 10 bucks makes a world of difference.

80mm fan at ~2450rpm moving around 27cfm. Idle & Load temps up 1 or 2 C, but dbs down from 43 to 21 (box specs, my highly cal'd ear can't tell other than MAN! is it quiet in here)

Had to pull PSU to get clearance to retaining clip (just barely enough room to do it, but didn't want to risk slipping and driving through new mobo....

Freaky boot though: 2600+ Barton prev running at 1922 (166x12.5) turbo settings, up from 1877 optimal. Changed cooler and MBM5 utility showed 1628mhz, with voltage flux on all voltages. Doublechecked psu inst & all connects good.

BIOS check was ok, no new changes noted but reset to opt (got 1914), again to turbo (1922). Voltage flux stable (+- a couple tenths).

Thinking this RAIDMAX is a POC. Point of upgrade was to get back to gaming w/decent, inexp sys for new games (UT04, H2, D3, HL2, FC, etc) and to handle multiple HDD/Opt Disks for vid work. Old PSU was old 300w. RAIDMAX case is ok and meets the reqmt, 430w PSU specs looked alright compared to others but not so sure about quality now. Will keep an eye on it and likely upgrade later. crap, it's always something, but hey, beats owning a MAC. (kiddin).

'preciate the help.

In the cpu/overclocking forums it is regularly mentioned the necessity of a quality PSU. If you have AMD -> Antec (True series 430), if you have Intel -> Enermax 465 or Enlight 420.
