If Asheron's Call 2 wasn't coming out in a month, I might buy Earth and Beyond but I've read that there's no story line or plot or anything until you get to lvl 30 or higher and it's lacking a lot of stuff. Looks really cool but...

But heck, for $35 I might just go find a copy.

It's fun and can get pretty addictive. It's the first MMORPG that I didn't get bored of after a day or two (apologies to all you Evercrack-heads). Levelling gets grindingly slow at higher levels, but there's a lot of different things to do and explore. Once you get a hang of things, it might be a good idea to join a guild, which can make the game even more enjoyable. It's $12.99 a month to play, but the first month of play is included with the retail box. You need to buy a pre-paid game card or use a credit card to make payments.

I beta tested this game. It is well put together but personally I didn't like it because no matter what you do....you have to go out and probe meteors and kill things circling the meteors. It just seemed like that was all I could ever do. No Player versus Player and no mass takeovers of any bases or anything cool like that.

Eath and Beyond stinks. I played the beta up until the last day. There's no player vs player, and you spend all day flying through space to get from point x to point y. One one mission I spent an 45-60 minutes flying from one planet to another and then once you get there you a guy tells you once sentance and then he says, "Go back to that planet you just came from" . Like I couldn't have just called the guy or something. Funny thing about the future is that everyone has there own space ship given to you by the government but NOBODY HAS ANY DAMN PHONES!

There are tons of bugs in the game. They seemed to have a "Well we're getting the game out by date X no matter what shape it's in" attitude. It's one of those games that has a lot of potential but isn't being implemented well. It's kind of like a multiplayer Privateer only with EVERYTHING that's cool about Privateer taken out.

Edit: Oh yeah and when I say flying through space I mean clicking on a nav point and hitting go and waiting 10 minutes. Then watching the starts streak by. Reach nav point, Warp, select new nav point, wait 10 minutes, warp, repeat. You also can't really leave the room while all this pointlessly long space travel is going on because you can be pulled out of warp and killed by pirates and aliens.

Plus it's $13 a month on top of the X dollars to but the game.

OK, that kills it for me right there.......Every now and then I get a serious itch to hunt down a copy of Privateer 2 and spend a couple hours trying to get it to play on my PC.....LOVED that game!!!

Whoot! Privateer 2 rocked! Privateer and Righteous Fire were my all time favorite games. I had a copy of Privateer 2 deluxe (would run on Windows), but it is a collectors item and I sold it on E-gay for $60 good luck finding one. I will never give up my copy of Privateer gold! NEVER! STAY BACK... to bad it won't run on windows I occasionally hook up my 486 just to play it... DOS 5.0 baby, 1mb SVGA, SBPro, 120mb HD! hehe

DON'T get it because I said it's kind of like Privateer. Privateer was a GREAT game. E&B sucks. EVERYTHING that was cool about Privateer is missing from this game. Imagine a Privateer where all you did was the space travel (only excruciatingly longer) then sold boring stuff (Romance Novels <- Not a joke, vs drugs, slave girls, technology like Privateer) and them imagine it sucks more than that and then you have Earth and Beyond.

I implored them to make it more like Privateer but they made it less and less like that as the beta went on. I got in on the beta because a guy said it was kind of like Privateer. YOU CANNOT BE A SPACE PIRATE in this game.

This game IS NOT Privateer.

excitement was over codeyf's mention of Privateer 2... not EB. I just bought a game in the bargain bin called Terminus... so far, it promises to be a lot like Privateer. Anyone else play that one?

Can EB be played stand alone at all?

Ok lots of Misinformation here.

1. You can be a pirate, you just have to play your cards right and get in with the right people.

2. You don't "probe meteors" what the hell is that anyway? But u can mine them if you choose the appropriate character.

3. I am in a guild of people that came from Asherons Call. Most of them beta'd AC2 as well and prefer E&B. Many other people are coming from Dark Age of Camelotte also.

4. No plot after lev 30 thats just nonsense. In fact up to level 35 or so there are very detailed missions that will take up alot of your time, leading to a more independent period after that where u explore and do your own thing.







I have been playing this game for almost 3 weeks now and i am LOVING it. I used to play old gothic/ dark ages games like DAoC. But they got old. If you like running around killing snakes and toades and stuff feel free but i would rather fly around in space and look at purty graphics. It has new and different things than all MMORPG's before it (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game), like the way that the player economy works. See people that choose to do so mine asteroids and get elements which are refined into different stuff that can be used to make weapons, ship componets, devices, and ammunition. So the best weapons etc are made by players. There is lots of cool stuff to it so i hope u check it out. My only gripe is that the missions after lev 30 are scarce, but content should be added as time progresses.

LOL @ Codey, guess what I did yesterday?
Attempted to get P2 The darkening running on my rig again...It just won't work in XP and the whole cpu way to fast deal..
I did at least get it installed though, can get in the game but everything is in hyperspeed mode...LOL! None of the MO SLO deals seem to work well either.

I would be in the group that played AC for a long time (it was a great game) and beta tested AC2 (still am), but I have to say I picked up E & B and am having more fun for the time being than I have been in AC2. Maybe it is because it is a totally different setting than AC or AC2, I dunno. I have tried most all of them including EQ, DAoC, AO, Neocron (beta), but usually got bored pretty fast.

So many new MMORPG's coming out soon it's enough to make your head spin!

I played the game as well since like August, allthough not very much since it kinda blows. All you do is fly aroung "systems" and collect crap from asteroids. Once you collect the crap you take it to the person who asked for it and they give you another quest or send you to someone else. Once in a great whiel you need to fight someone, but not that much and it usually is just a drone ship collecting minerals. The game is buggy is hell too, I coud usually only play the game for around 20 minutes to an hour and then it would crash at soem strange point, like just flying through space (ie like running on the trail in EverQuest and bam your computer freezes).
