I like 'Allo 'Allo where everyone "speaks" English, but people with English accents can't "understand" people with French and German accents, etc.

I hope not. With our technology and newfound way to be an interconnected community, I would hope true democracy can be realized. Monarchy has so many problems, as does a hierarchical representative system.

True democracy would be a disaster. It would be nothing more then mob rule, where the most active majority always gets its way, with no thought to consequences.
A representative republic was the compromise between monarchy and democracy. It is IMO the government type that has the best chance to retain freedoms over a long period of time.
The very best government type is probably a benevolent dictatorship, but the problem with it is there is no way to guarantee benevolence, and it can only last the life time of one man.
Communism, or socialism, gives up the freedoms of its people to hopefully buy economic stability, but not prosperity. History has shown us that when you do that you end up with neither freedom nor stability.

I think that the best we can hope for is a technocracy that will combine the best of a benevolent dictator with that of a republic to form a government that is neither impotent nor demanding.

The U.S. founding fathers knew that a government conctrolled by an absolute Union was in the worst interest of citizens, which is why they explicitly broke up powers between the federal and state governments with emphasis on States' rights.

For democracy to be protected and capitalism to effectively work you need competition - different countries, different states, different parties, etc.

Not any time soon. There are still FAR too few governments and cultures on earth that are built with the intention of securing the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for people. There's still a LOT of oppression, much of it culturally ingrained.

Before we can have a truly peaceful world, there are many tyrants and many oppressive cultures that have to be overthrown.

You're insane. It's not *Tyranny* that we need, it's a culturally ingrained respect for life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness and everyone's right to live according to their own standards so long as they don't go out of their way to harm others.

The fact that we still have people who believe Tyranny, fear, oppression and terror are the only ways to unite mankind just proves how very far we still have to go.

Truthfully, I see us becoming a world community in the next 100-200 years. The UN was the first step, but as we start pulling together, helping with disasters, etc, I think it will eventually happen. I don't think we'll have one "Almighty supreme leader" of the world, but we'll probably have something like we have with Congress now, and a president with checks and balances.
