This is part of a school project, where I'm supposed to spread the word about Earth Day and try to contribute to environmental awareness.

April 22nd is a day to forget about all of our environmentally harmful activities and do something helpful to our world!

Plant some seeds, clean up the park near you, recycle, turn off unneeded electrical appliances. Individually, we might not be able to do much, but if we all do something together, there is the potential to save the world for future generations.

Post something, discuss the current situation, ways to improve it, etc. Any contribution will be appreciated!

I spent today cleaning up broken glass and planting grass at my local disc golf course.

I now look like a lobster...

I'm a fan of the planting trees idea. Really, trees make any landscape better.

How about those of us who incorporate such things into our daily lives?

Living with other people at college has shown me how rampant waste is. The TV is left on constantly, even when no one is in the apartment, and from being in the dorms' public-type bathrooms, leaving the water running while brushing teeth is amazingly common. What is the point of doing that?????
And the campus had to stop their recycling program in the apartments - too many morons, not only running the thing, but also residents. The bins were located right next to the often-overflowing dumpster. They were unmarked gray bins. It was just assumed they were for recycling. There was no list on them either as to what was acceptable material. So, they wound up getting used as overflow bins for the trash. Result: the recycling company told the college that we were effectively too expensive for them, as they had to do too much sorting to get all the trash out.
I made a few suggestions as to how to prevent this problem in the future, and next semester they will be starting something that should be more idiot-resistant.

To the campus' credit, the grounds are technically an arboretum. They've got various kinds of trees all over the place, some of which have signposts by them indicating the species.

And how's this: my eyes made a sacrifice recently. My CRT died, and now I'm using an LCD panel. Sure it's big and light and uses about half the power of my CRT, but the 2ms response time still sucks. Oh well.

That doesn't really help the earth. It helps golfers.

I've been to Earth Day events ALMOST every year since it was conceived.

PEAKING OF WORLD OIL PRODUCTION: IMPACTS, MITIGATION, & RISK MANAGEMENT
Robert L. Hirsch, SAIC, Project Leader Roger Bezdek, MISI Robert Wendling, MISI February 2005

DISCLAIMER This report was prepared as an account of work sponsored by an agency of the United States Government. Neither the United States Government nor any agency thereof, nor any of their employees, makes any warranty, express or implied, or assumes any legal liability or responsibility for the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any information, apparatus, product, or process disclosed, or represents that its use would not infringe privately owned rights. Reference herein to any specific commercial product, process, or service by trade name, trademark, manufacturer, or otherwise does not necessarily constitute or imply its endorsement, recommendation, or favoring by the United States Government or any agency thereof. The views and opinions of authors expressed herein do not necessarily state or reflect those of the United States Government or any agency thereof.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The peaking of world oil production presents the U.S. and the world with an unprecedented risk management problem. As peaking is approached, liquid fuel prices and price volatility will increase dramatically, and, without timely mitigation, the economic, social, and political costs will be unprecedented. Viable mitigation options exist on both the supply and demand sides, but to have substantial impact, they must be initiated more than a decade in advance of peaking.

Interesting, and completely depressing. GM and all the car companies need to start cranking out the fuel-efficient and alternate fuel cars much more quickly.

My school is evil. I puts 2 recycling cans for every garbage cans it has to make it look impressive to any environmentalist freaks.

But then they pile all the garbage from both cans into the same dumpster.

What's ultimately depressing is that world oil production has peaked already.

Our ten years started a year ago. This is a bit of the catalyst for finding my new property.

If you guys want some cold hard facts please check out peakoil.com

Please consider the fact that the american way of life is not tenable.

It does NOT save resources, energy, or money, cut pollution, etc., unless it is Aluminum or Gold.

Yeah, because that's a non-biased source

No one knows how much oil is available under the earth. You'd incredibly naive to think that every possible ounce has been tapped at this point.

picking up trash and glass and planting grass in a public park helps everything.

I live my life to help the earth, I don't need a day to make me do it. :disgust:
