Earth day - April 22nd

I use used cardboard boxes to pack my things instead of purchase new boxes, and hooked up a new 19" LCD monitor that consume less energy than my old 17" CTR.

I didn't plant anything this weekend, but I'm planing to have low water consumption landscaping plants/stone, and install underground sprinkler system to save 50% on water usage. Last weekend I installed an RO system in my new house so that I don't have to waste fuel on filter water supply runs. My new house is 50% larger than my old house, however it consume 13% less energy than the old house. I maintain my 18 year old car well so that it still run with out losing any oil between oil change and also save the environment by not having a new car every few years. To further save energy and manufacture goods, I turn my computer off every night and it last much longer than the standard 2-3 years life span.

[add] My TV stay on for less than 2 hours per week, new house use CFL and there is no need for lights during day hours because the house is full of windows & skylights.

I disagree, we have the technology to easily support our current population even with a considerable drop in fossil fuel output. I would say the "die-off" would by more of a leveling out as population growth rates slow down considerably in poorer countries (there would likely be considerable deaths in these areas, but developed nations would be relatively stable, certainly there would not be a shortage of food). Genetically modified crop varieties can be bred to be more resilient so that chemical fertilizers and pesticides are not required any longer, as well they could be adapted to take even a considerable global warming impact without inhibiting food supply. The doomers do nto take into account human ingenuity and innovation, people will be able to adapt to whatever comes.

I'm not a doomer but I don't believe there is any replacement for the oil standard.

There are a few other things besides peak oil that make the 20 year outlook very bleak.

I hope that we can make a change and follow a new technology, but the resources on this earth are finite and can only support a given number of people comfortably.

I'm comfortable right now, though I have a nagging feeling that it's not tenable. I've seen what it takes to produce the bread you eat.
