Earthlink DSL or Cable $29.95 for Six Months.

When Earthlink first started selling cable access over Time Warner's lines, there WAS a 10GB advertised limit. This was later removed (or hidden). After speaking to many Earthlink Cable users, apparently this 10GB limit is not being enforced. But since Time Warner / Roadrunner IS beginning to enforce a 15GB cap in a few areas, it seems as though Earthlink may eventually begin to fall under a similar cap. (Remember, Earthlink is using Time Warner's lines/bandwith in some markets).

I will be switching to Earthlink cable (cheaper, no downloads caps - at least not yet).

P.S. - If you are on Roadrunner / Time Warner cable, keep your eyes open. This new 15GB cap is being test marketed now in a few areas, but may eventually go national.

What ?? Verizon would be only $12 cheaper if you look at the cost for 1 year of service but then throw in the $75 Best Buy GC

I can receive the special Cable Promo from DELL but I have a few questions/concerns :

1. I have Road Runner right now, can I do this switch over the phone and receive the new rate and gift card?

Or can I submit the order online and call.

2. Is it a smooth switch from RR to earthlink? Do I have to return my cable modem and get a new one?

Can someone detail the steps for current RR subscriber wanting to switch to Earthlink and get the Dell Rebate too.

Your help would be appreciated. I would love to get the new rate, but the gift card would be even better.

Guys, this deal may be OBE now for a lot of us. I just tried to get in on this deal through Dell and now it is not showing Earthlink as an option for the $75 rebate. My only current options are BellSouth DSL at $49.95 and Directway. BTW I live in Central Florida. I am going to give a CSR a call to see if this is in fact the truth. If it is I will probably go through BestBuy.


FYI, BestBuy also shows that this rebate is no longer available in my area. A call to Dell was a waste of my time. I guess I'll try again tomorrow ....

I now know why I am SOL. I checked the Earthlink website and now it shows that Earthlink is NOT AVAILABLE in my are! How can that be? I have a cable and it was available last week. Probably an issue between TW and Earthlink.

Here is my experience with RoadRunner and Earthlink. I live near Dayton, Ohio. I had RR through Time Warner. I recieved a letter AND a call about the new 15 gig limit per month, the guy on the phone said I had downloaded over 50 gig per month the last 3 months. I don't know if this was true or not. So I changed to Earthlink. Welllll, I thought RR slowed down in the evening, Earhlink is almost unuseable for me during peak hours, their news server is UNUSABLE!! (for me anyway) Slow as being on a modem and keeps disconnecting! I have been an Easynews user for a while, it is usable but stills gets dropped off alot. I don't know what I'm going to do now. If DSL was available here I would JUMP on it! Also on the phone when I signed up with Earthlink I was told specifically UNLIMITED. I guess I'll find out soon enough. btw it took me about 15 mins to get this posted because of the SLOW page loads...

The same is true for the Earthlink browser, and my system works with a POP3 mail setup. It's just an ugly overlay to IE that takes up more resources on your system.

Earthlink's price includes 20 hrs/month free dial up so you can stay connected if your DSL goes down. I can't say enough good about my experiences with Earthlink tech support. My telco is Verizon < sigh >, and their part of the DSL system has gone down a couple of times. When I called Earthlink and verified where the problem was, they placed a note in my account so I would not be charged anything if I had to exceed the 20 hour limit due to the DSL outage, even though it wasn't their fault. Also, I usually start by letting them know I'm an experienced user, and I've already gone through the basic checklist, and they cut to the chase instead of going through thier whole script before dealing with the actual problem.

I would have to concur with Earthlink's tech support. I've been using their DSL for the last 3 years and have recently switched over to their Cable service via Time Warner. In the few instances when their tech support was neccesary, the service was fast and helpful.

I'm sure this has probably been mentioned someplace, but in Montgomery County (Wash DC), Comcast is offering a promotion of $20/month cable internet until December 2003. They also have a cable tv promotion - $20/month for three months that includes the entire digital lineup, and showtime.

Time Warner went up on me from 34.95 to 45.95 last month, so I checked out Earthlink. The deal that has been running this long is still running, $29.95 for 6 months, then $41.95 thereafter, with NO penalties for early termination (no minimum deal).

The good thing is that I should be able to activate Earthlink over the phone, since Time Warner distributes their product, and services it.

It's good for someone to still be honest and give us pricing from 8 years back. TW goes up every year. And this is for 7Mbps speeds too, not 768kb (or whatever).
