OK! I have been prodded to consider quad core CPU for editing/encoding, etc. Am not into gaming(so far, plus i think I am too old). Was looking at Intel E8400 but have come up with this for starters now...

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450

OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066

Would like suggestions for mobo to build around. Not sure if this is overkill or just leaving room to grow.

Noone is ever too old for gaming, I got my grandad playing battlefield 2, its even GOOD for his arthritis as his joints are more limber

Anyway, the EVGA 750i FTW is highly regarded for performance and price. If graphics cards ever really give true benefits to encoding is still debated, but if they do then 750i chipsets would allow you to go SLI too.

Many others prefer the intel boards, but I dont know so much about them. Suffice to say on the nvidia based boards, 750i's offer better bang for buck than their 790i (supposedly) superior bretheren.
