Easiest Samsung Fascinate root?

I know, "google is your friend" - but I find that rooting methods change frequently enough to warrant a post. What's the easiest method for rooting the fascinate? I found a few but wonder what the latest and greatest method is. My wife will be getting hers tomorrow and all I want to do is upgrade to froyo, as samsung/verizon seems to be sitting on their official roll out.

Thanks!

Yup, this gets you Froyo and a working (red) recovery in one fell swoop.

AWESOME - thanks so much!

Question - the "lite" dejunked flavors - worth it? This phone is for my wife so user friendliness is a must so I'm thinking stock is best, but the bing branded stuff is silly

Yep, she really likes wireless tethering on her droid

You might not be able to tether with EB01 yet. I haven't tried yet. I know early on you couldn't, VZW put a catch in place to try to stop people from doing it. I believe there is a workaround, but it might not be in these packages.

Nope wireless tethering works just fine. The only thing they are trying to stop is people hacking the built in 3g mobile hotspot to work for free. I've use Wireless Tether for root with eb01 and it worked great.

Wow - that was easy! Thanks so much for the above link -rooted and upgraded to a verizon crapware free 2.2 in less than 15 minutes. Great phone, wireless tethering works great!

One thing to note is that I find it curious how similarly my 1st gen droid performs (overclocked, of course). Not a complaint about the fascinate, but I thought the hummingbird was supposed to a generation or 2 faster. Guess dual core's where we'll see the real performance boost.. Or gpu acceleration!

What sort of things were you doing with it? My friend has a D1 and when we compare phones, my simply blows his out of the water (except in battery life, but I probably use mine more than he does). His was running a 1ghz kernel and a variety of roms. I'm running a Superclean ROM. We haven't had a chance to compare his latest 2.3 rom to my 2.2 rom yet. I'm hoping I'll have a fully fuctional 2.3 rom before I see him again in two weeks. That should make for a good comparison too.

Also if your using sythetic benchmarks like Quadrant to compare your going to want to use a Voodoo lag-fix enabled kernel and rom. This changed the filesystem to ext4 from rfs. The real-world benefit is debatable but it definetly improves benchmarks.

marked, thanks for this info. I'd been waiting to root my fascinate until verizon itself released froyo, but the fact that there's no word from them on this still and that lately my phone's battery life has gone downhill makes me want to try this.

Froyo for the Mesmerize (US Cellular version of Fascinate) is coming sometime in March. I doubt Verizon would want to fall behind, so I would think that the Fascinate should be getting Froyo sometime in March also.

interesting.. ugh more waiting. Appreciate the info though. I'd been looking through xdaforums for any kind of release info but hadn't seen anything.

edit: updated.. and WHY did I wait so long to root??! Installed super clean ROM. Took ~10 minutes. No issues so far and the phone flies. Thank you!
