Easiest way to make an FTP server?

I know its off topic, but its more of a serios question thn the stuff talked bout in OT so i ask here:
I want to make some of the files in my computer be available to download from anywhere, i want it to be password protected. no warez sites, just my stuff for my private use where im away from my computer. i dont want to upload it to idrive or the likes because its too much data and its changing frequently. and i have dialup only, but my computer is almost always online.
windows only, i'm too stupid to use linux (i tryed...)

hmm you need to get one of the windows based ftp programs
like
Serv-U,
WarFTPd, or
G6FTP Server.
Then just install, setup the accounts, paths, and etc its pretty easy.
But since you're on dialup your ip address will change everytime u reconnect.
So be sure to note your new ip address. Then just ftp to your ipaddress and whatever port u set it for. port 21 is default.
Your upload is gonna be pretty slow though since its dialup.

or another way (though its not login/pass protected) is to use irc.
You dont need to remember your ipaddress this way.
Can just go to your own private channel, set up a channel password/key, and setup a irc server. Theres alot of different irc scripts that let you serve files through irc.
So then you could just go to that same irc channel and download from yourself.

How to find IP Address?

Start | Run and type winipcfg .
Will tell your ip address and allow you to release and renew it if you like.

well i can get my ip address from the systray icon, but since its changing, i prfer ir. can anyone extend and elaborate on how to create a privte irc channel and serving files through it?

In W2K to see your IP address just type ipconfig

start a command prompt and then type ipconfig... else it appears and disappears really fast
